    Q. re whiting on poppers

with all the whiting/flathead on poppers stuff lately is anyone prepared to give a bit of info..
my questions are..where do you actually fish for them?? in the usual spots? or is it all shallow water sand flats type of fishing? what depth of water will they come up from to take a popper ?? & do you just give them a bloop stop type of retrieve or crank them straight back??
has me fascinated as i have never bothered with poppers..

I'm interested in this one too - it seems so counter-intuitive - Whiting on poppers

I have read of constant retrieves working. But mostly you pop them along the surface trying to get a good plop sound happening. Plop, wind, Plop, wind. After a while you get a real groove happening, and it all pieces together. Fish the shallow flats for whiting and flathead.

The same flats that hold yabbies and where you regularly catch blue spot rays too. Gin clear water and still mornings seem the go. Couple this with a rising tide and have a crack, there are worse things to do.

Up to 1.5m deep, over yabby banks and weed beds. The retrieve i use is actually pretty agressive,Not stopping at all because as soon as you do they lose interest.Just constant small pops while continuosly winding.Much like a walk the dog retrieve with a stickbait. Ben

Re: Q. re whiting on poppers

the reason for asking is, a mate of mine has a bunch of these arriving soon in assorted colours & when he gives me a few i thought i might chuck them around over xmas.
They are a soft plastic popper with an air pocket that collapses when the fish takes it, supposedly giving a better hookup.... they are rigged like most unweighted plastics wit a worm hook. could be a bit of fun, i hope

if they work as well here as they do in the US, he will start importing in the new year.
Flattie Assassin & nuggstar will talk to the mate & get back to you. he only has a few packets as testers coming, will see if i can get 1 or 2 for you to fiddle with.
