    Boat trailer electric winch???

Hi, just after some info from anyone with a good quality electric trailer winch. I have just been looking at the BIAS catalogue and saw a superwinch S5000 that looks like it may do the job. Does anyone own one of these or have had dealings with them?? I am looking at pulling a 6.5m plate boat up the trailer but as we also do beach launching, I really was after something that retreives with a little bit of speed. I have seen some that I could easily wind on faster. Does anyone have other brands that are reputable.

Not that reputable but we had one of those cheapies from Super Cheap Auto. I think even bias may now sell them but under a different brand. It pulled up our very heavy 5m wooden boat just fine, no problems but it was a bit slow. Around $120 on speacial so at that price you can't really complain.

lee i have the superwinch 4000 and it pulls my 6.1 tabs up and it shows no sign of being under load at all
my winch is 24 volt , i don,t think that it makes to much differance thow.
my last boat was a 19 ft f/glass,and i bort from the bias shop a $600.00
dw-3000i . this would pull the boat up 3/4 and then fail ,

they are all slow, the gear ratio needs to be that way to give them any power at all, anything that is fast will need a mega battery and leads and cost half of your Boats worth!

have a look at the power winch models , and i would say the 712 is what you are looking for .
i have the 912 eqauvilant and i wish i got the 712 for the taller gearing ( mines a bit slow ) .
i have seen a 712 on a outsider 575 and it rips it up real good .
the clutch setup on these make launching easy as .

good spares backup as well with the power winch and have a think about the spectra rope as well , it makes life easier .

    Re: Boat trailer electric winch???

I bought a Superwinch GP 3000 and it's great. Pulls six meter boat onto the trailer in about 40-50 seconds. It's really fast but pulls a lot of amps, about 60 for my boat. I actually melted an Anderson plug that wasn't connected firmly. I run it straight off the battery and leave the motor running. Prior to the Superwinch I went through about 2 of the supercheap winches.

Only downside of the superwinch is that it cannot be worked manually. It doesn't have a handle. http://www.superwinch.com/GP3000_3_000_lbs_615.html

Hi Marco, I'm definitely after an Electric winch , just checked the Glascraft site.

The 712 is cheaper than the one you got but has faster retrieve. Does your's have more pulling power? My boat is about the sme size as the 575

    Cheers Jimmy

    Re: Boat trailer electric winch???

jimmy , yea mine has more pulling power but it really is suited for a much bigger boat . the 712 would have been so much better and my boat is a 625 outsider .

lee, we've got a powerwinch 315 pulling our 6.2m glass boat and it's doing it ok, a little slow but wired directly up to the battery and with 6sq.mm cable it's all good. whitworths have the 912 model on sale for $699 at the moment. powerwinch website gives all the techo data.

Marco i was just talking to Whitworths and i asked them what winch is suitable for a 5.3 glass boat.
I Suggested the 712 powerwinch but he disagreed and stated that the specs are only meant for a 5 degree incline on ramps and was pushing for the 912 powerwinch.
Then there is the superwinch but no emergency handle and my boat builder said the 5000 superwinch which i think is over kill but that is what he uses on the same boat.
Our ramps are very steep so i am confused.
Boat builder does not like the powerwinch especially the clutch control knob which you use to break the boat on launching and retreiving.
    912 Powerwinch $899
    5000 Superwinch $1099.
Having no emergencey handle on the Powerwinch is what worries me and different opinions as i stated above.

    Re: Boat trailer electric winch???

Any takers on this as i do not want to have the same problem with the 912 powerwinch that i had on my 625 outsider which was painfully slow.
    Thanks

    Troy,

Check out some of the home made jobs on this link...

    http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...=127202&page=2

Reckon they'd be ideal for ripping the boat up quick.

    Regards,
    Dave.
