Has anyone used a prawn star lure before I have only just started with soft plastics and having good results. Thought I may try the prawn star seems you use the same style of action to a soft plastic. Also do soft plastics work at night??

have had reasonable success on the prawnstar - caught Jack, Flathead and Cod using them. but for some reason they are not a lure I choose to use first, but rather an after thought? they claim to be relatively snag free, which is also a bonus when chasing Jacks

as for sp's at night - they definitely work, but you need to be in the right spots. try areas where bait will congregate, particularly around light sources like bridges, etc. you may find the sp's with more moving parts (ie shad tails, etc) will work better than others (ie jerkshads, etc)

I think Prawnstars seem to be the best ever Flathead lure (some might disagree) they work a treat, but I found that slow as slow can be is the secret, like a slow wind, let it rest for a bit, give a "jerk" then slow again and rest, caught all sorts of odds and ends on them as well, like Bream and Whiting, but I think they are just accidents (sort of)

does anyone know any 'upgrades' for them, like what higher quality hooks can fit in them? and has anyone tried trimming the joint where it jerks up a bit to free it coz it takes a bit to move that tail, ive been meaning to do it but just havent got around to it

I have looked at Prawnstars in the Water, and the tail flick thing hardly works at all ,except in the Shop while you are mucking around with it, so I guess if you can make it work, then give it a go! the tiny hooks that they come with seem surprisingly good!

I've used prawnstars a fair bit and would suggest that if you can catch something on it, then you would have on anything else.

Not a fan. Catches plenty of fisherman though

i'd agree with flatty assasin, blood-up for jacks and a hook upgrade, also wrap a bit of red electrical tape around the middle hook shaft to help stay in slot. Honeypot colour also works well. Havn't tried trimming them up for more movement, might give it a go this arvo. Have had a bit of a comp with a mate who was using a rioprawn, they go alright, hard to source, ended up even on four lizards each. Price on them is rising slowly so watch out for the sales.

Put your Prawnstar in a mug of boiling hot water straight from the kettle.

Leave in there for 5 minutes or so. This softens them up a tad and seems to give a slightly better tail flick.

I have seen some guys use the prawnstars and they do a really aggressive whip of the rod tip.... i mean they really rip it up hard. The guys i saw doing this got a metre long barra and a 80cm fingermark that day,(Hinchinbrook).
