Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
ok kewl that's interesting. How would a calcutta 50 with wiffle spool compare to say a chronarch mg or alphas (casting wise)??

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
My only experience with the MG 50 is in my mates back yard flicking a plastic clothes peg around,I have never used an Alphas, the CT 50 with the mod cast as well as the MG in my opinion, keeping in mind that I am biased towards high profile baitcasters as it's all I've ever used.I think the telling point would come with how you fish the reel,if you like to palm the reel the low profile is always going to be your choice, where as if you are a one finger in front of the trigger type the high profile is likely to fit you better.

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
oh ok. well im going to go for a low profile for the time being and might get a calcutta 50b with wiffle spool down the track for my flathead fishing and just use my spin gear for flathead for the time being. So i guesss its out of the alphas or the chronarch 50mg then...

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
id reccomend a zillion,
i have a zillion and alphas 103 (purple CR Type)
I got the alphas first and fell in love with it, its soo light and small and an absolute dream to use. but when my zillion arrived i couldnt believe that its about the same size and only weighs slightly more.
The drag is superior on the zillion and you can get them cheap as basskid said.
have a look at www.japantackle.com, email kayo there and im sure he will look after u. I think my zillion cost $303 landed

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
my alphas,783 crankbait is absolutely awesome one of my most used setup's. between alphas and chronarch there is really no better in my opinion. are u bias towards diawa or shimano? just make your choice on the brand you like more

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
i tried a zillion on the crankbait rod and found it a little to heavy. the combo didnt feel balanced but it felt awesome on the heavier spinnerbait series rod i looked at.

Re: Baitcast reel for bass fishing!!
alphas hands down. go for a type f. compared to standard alphas its lighter, smoother because it has a better quality main gear and has bearings in the handles which does make a difference over time. will be fine in the salt, no MG components. stainless bearings are actually a higher grade than the CRBB's, regular basic maintenance will see no probs in salt water. best bit, its cheaper! not sure why but most japanese vendors sell type f's for less than the standard.
same spool dia. as a pixy so it throws small lures well, yet big 7 disc drag i know guys who use these things for impoundment barra
