I can only comment on the Daiwa Sols, as thats the only reel that I have thats in your "maybe list".
I have had no dramas with it, and find it smooth to use. As normal with any Daiwai product I guess. I dont think you would be dissapointed with it.
Hey everyone,
Well i had an unlucky session the other day just in the river. Me and my brother were being dikheads (there werent enough fish on the chew to keep us serious and entertained) so anyway i managed to flip my canoe in about 30ft of water... everything was tied down and all was well when we flipped it back over and climbed back in..... that was until i arrived at the next pool and went to pick up my rod to have a cast.... i looked around to find that my chronarch 50mg and loomis crankbait was no more in the canoe!!!!!!!
I have already put another loomis crankbait on layby however i am not decided on a new reel... i have been throwing lures at flathead recently and am wondering weather maybe there would be a better option to the chronarch 50mg... i am looking at a reel for no more then say 450 and it has to be of either daiwa or shimano... i am looking at an alphas, chronarch 50mg, chronarch 100b or even one of those daiwa sol's...i also really like the look of the daiwa luna's ..... what can everyone say about these reels?? This reel will still be used 70% for bass fishing but it may be used in salt a little bit too....
Cheers everyone, Dave

I have a chronarch 100B, top reel, especially after a service and drag up-grade, dont know how it would go with throwing the smaller size bass lures though??, same with the Luna, allthough the one Ive got is a 203, way to much reel for bass and lizards I reckon.
There were some second hand Steez's around not so long ago for that money, but no good for the salt.
If it was me, Id be havein a good look at the Alphas, was going to buy one my self but Im waiting to see if Santa has been listening to all my subtle hints.
cheers
brian
Maybe i should just go for another chronarch 50mg then?? I was quite interested in the luna 103..... but maybe it is a bit of overkill for bass and lizards.... i want something really nice to cast that is light basically
Hey Dave,
I just bought a daiwa steez very nice, although its a NO NO !! for the salt and so is the chronarch.. My Opinion is to buy a Daiwa Zillion and PM sent about were to get one cheap and also they are extremely versatile.
Cheers Mate
i ended up getting an alpha's type f a few months ago and i would say it would be perfect to what your lookin at doing. very comparable to the chronarch but doesnt have magnesium so it is a little hardier. the brake is a little better but it doesnt have a click drag which is a bummer but very comfortable to use, i have it on a crankbait 783 and it is just a dream to use.
Zaraspook,
Type f alphas means fresh, it will not last in saltwater and would not risk it as it has no Corrosion Resistant anything in it. My bet would still be a Zillion in the Crazy Cranker gear as its super slow and you can work your lures extremely well. Otherwise if only used in fresh go the Alphas as you can buy so many options for it like spare spool and other awsome accessories.
Cheers

Hey hardb8, that is an awsome reel mate but im sorry i am only looking at spending 300 to maybe a little bit over. I get a staff discount of 25% off and that is why i am looking at reels that are between 350 to 450 cause i will get them for about 300 with my discount... sorry mate, if i had the money i would be more interested but i can also get a brand new luna 103 for 299 anyway
there is the alphas which is meant for salt
HEY,
There is actaully 2 alphas types which is meant for salt the 150h and the 103 and there is one for fresh the 103 type f (silver colour) they are all good reels and under your budget bass pirate.
If a high profile is in the picture the Calcutta 50 is prety good value at $259,a good bulletproof little reel that is just as happy in salt or fresh, throw a bit more on top of your discount and order in a wiffle spool from an XT 50 and you'll have a reel capable of flicking 3.5-4g lures around.
Alphas , Chronarch 50MG , Chronarch CH100B ....... all much of a muchness for bass fishin .... I could live with any of them
Love the Zillion ... but I'm a little unsure if it can cast ultra lite lures like the 3 others mentioned . Nagg
I think your out of luck BP,prety sure the Calcutta XT's only came in 50 and 200 sizes so the wiffle spools would only suit 50/200/250 sizes in the standard CT's,if you had the Curado 100 you could substitute the standard spool with the wiffle and cast control cap out of the MG 50 for a salt freindly low profile 50 (though to be honest there's not a lot of Magnesium in an MG 50 anyway).
PS The spools can be ordered through any tackle store that services Shimano reels.
