Headed out on sat to what was a perfect day.. Left spinaker sound approx 430 ish (due to that massive impedeing down pour) to find a very tame moreton bay. Headed out to the cape and proceded to fish around sun up.
Fish were a plenty with good snapper, cobia and parrot coming aboard thick. We bagged out on snapper avg 3kg early around 9 o'clock.
Story of the day would have to go to yours truly.... We saw a flock of working birds and procceded to chase tuna as we had our esky full. Motored up very slowly to the edge and a mate of mine started throwing slugs, I though thought it would be fun on my soft plastics rod. The fish were certainly not tuna, they were monsterous kings. Anyways, I hooked onto the bloody leader of the pack then I got tangled with the retirive of the slug. I had to free spool the caldia to have any chance whilst we sorted out the tangle. Anyways about 1 min later we had the tangle free and low and behold the yellowtail kingfish comes crusing past with my plastic in its gob chasing the bait fish. I can say now it was every bit of a 15kg plus kingie. I flipped the bail on the sucker and off she went.. I dont really know what happened next but close to being spooled i;ve a feeling the braid had a weak link in it and the rest is history....
Also got smoked quite a fair bit on plastics..
Oh last thing, mackeral are back.... We headed back into the shipping beacons and got a few lives for next time. Saw couple of boats pulling up some mackeral around the 2kg mark...
nice report baitable, bit of bad luck with the tangle but sounds like you got a great feed along with everyone else on the weekend, she was a cracker of a day saturday!!! cheers.
