[quote=sid_fishes;726353]butt, i have to ask. what is it going to cost for that first service. 3 yrs is a ####ing long time. cheers ian[/quote
gday ian ,the first service will be done in 12mnths and with 3 twin prong iridium plugs the service will still be cheaper than my yammy 4s 10hr service, $220 in labour, then i dont need a oil filter , oil and all the other 4s stuff etc.
08 etec are supplied with twin electrode iridium spark plugs to eliminate that little bit of a hiccup at slow running (6knts ish), mine does it and two other mates that hav them hav said the same. dont get me wrong it runs 120% . cant be happier. 220 plus an extra 70 for the iridium plug. so in the first year i will save over a $1000. and that only if i do 100hrs for the year. i do nearly double that, more money for my favourite piosions mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmbeeer
Good to see you boys are loving the engines. I wouldn't hesitate in buying one when the time comes around. I think overall the initial anti-etec brigade was made out of those rubbish CD/DVD ad's that they made, which for any engine make would put Aussie buyers off from the start. That gear may work in the states but not over here.
Good to see the 08 models are fixing the low revs problem and I think there will be some out there taking the foot out of thier mouths when e-tec eventually get the runs on the board.
Cheers Chris
Democracy: Simply a system that allows the 51% to steal from the other 49%.
Told By The Dealer, 3yr Service Is Around $300.00 All Up. 3 More Years And The Same Again. I ,personally Will Be Changing Impeller And Gear Box Oil Yearly, But This Is A Small Price To Pay Compared To Many Other Makes.

i too have the same problem fellas, its a real bitch when you go out for a cruise or fish only too find you have used very little fuel and next too no oil...damn its a problem, and as far as your comment sid_fishes, I am led to believe it is no more than the standard service of "other"models...anyway, I like my problem and so does my wallet...maybe we should have an E-TEC Meet and Great...we will be the quiet ones that don't smell and you can't see any smoke bellowing from the exhaust
Brett
Bet that would be a top day to be had for all, would be interesting to see if ET would bring his ETEC Haines or his older Yamaha Haines along or if if the IFISH boys remember to hook their ETEC ride up instead of their Honda. Long live to the highest sponsership deal.
Cheers
Dicko
I don't think we will have to worry about them.. There all in damage control, trying to remove there foot from there mouth. In the last 2 weeks I have read about 2 Optimax's with compressor problems and belt problems, A Tohatsu that grenaded after 20hrs, there was another brand also that had a problem. But I can't remember what it was.....

Well, We Shouldn't Be Too Hard On Them, After All They're All Fishermen Like Us Etec Owners. Anyone Can Have A Problem At Any Time. We Are Lucky Though To Have Such A Wide Range Of Good Brands To Choose From Imo. And While I Might Not Agree With The Next Man's Choice Or Opinion On Outboards, I Will Defend To The Death, His Right To Make It.

3 years, is your impellor made from iridium as well? hope she holds out. I have seen them after 12 months and it is a bit risky to rely on a bit of rubber to last that long. i like my gearbox oil to be nice so i change it every 50 hours. but i guess the warranty is there after 3 years, isnt it?
expecting a impeller to last 3 yrs is nothing , most would last probably ten to most people with there usage< i come from a area where there is a lot of sand and shallow boating and have had to change many water pumps. it is the base plates and housing that get the biggest hiding , so all i can say is that the blokes who just change there impellor for the sake of it every twelve months and run in clean water are probably wasting there money. i find it better to hold off a while and replace the lot than just the impellor after all an impellor will always have rub marks on its ends as its a displacement pump.
Gear box oil if uncontaminated will last as long as the life of that motor and beyond so the trick is to check for signs.eg line round prop ,water intrusion .
does anyone know what the 3yr service does cost i'm curious
