Well there really was no point in mucking around, so we arrived at our spot before the first hint of sunrise (4am). Started fishing in earnest with 5 keepers being landed, from 40-64cm. Ben Johansen the greenhorn(a newbie to fishing) landed his first ever snapper (or fish for that matter) a WHOPPING 64CM!!!...

Ben was stoked and the cheering and yahooing went up louder than a pack of wolves upon their prey. "That's not a bad start for a beginner" I added, lifting the eyebrow in surprise.

At 5am the rain set in, and it was all over! All said and done, a great first trip for the greenhorn, and an amazing first catch!!!

What a shame! Just about everything that Ben catches after that trip will be a disappointment to him.

was good going 'sniper man' - they love those SP's in bright colors at the moment - and aren't the snapper fat at the moment!

Good work lads do the snapper go off at all during the warmer months in the bay?

Lovey80 as others will confirm, you can catch squire in the bay all year round, and summer is no exception. You just need to find what they are feeding on the day. Sometimes they like SPs, sometimes they will only eat a well-presented bait, and sometimes they are just not on the bite at all.

I would suggest finding a quiet spot to beat the summer crouds. Certain areas around the bay islands always get thrashed at this time of year...thinking outside the square, like a fish does, often proves rewarding.
