rocket launcher - formosa 520 ra

    Hi to everyone.

I have a 5.2m formosa runabout with a 90 optimax which I'm real happy with but really need some more rod storage.
I have designed a SS rocket launcher and am having difficulty getting it built as I live in Orange NSW. Does anyone know the best place to get the job done at a reasonable cost? I'll travel as far as sydney. Had a quote in Orange of $2200 which is a bit over the top I think.

Also any design improvement idears would be great. It would be 15KG. Is that too heavy?
The current design will use standard ss pipe ends and deck mounts to fit to the boat and this
will let me lie it down when towing long distances. It will be made from 25.4mm 1.6mm 316 tube. I need the holder to be pretty strong for decent sized overheads and although something like the oceansouth launcher is great value, I don't think it would survive my abuse. Also has a plate at the top of each side for outrigger poles if I think I need them one day.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Daryl
If you have all the plans drawn up you could give the guys a call at Ark Marine. They are located in Brisbane though and the freight may blow the price out a bit. They made the launchers for my haines and they are top quality.

    plans look good Daryl
but being an alloy boat why not make them out of alloy (same plan) rather than S/S, IMHO any thing S/S on an alloy boat dont look right..........cut the cost down a bit also

Thanks 2DKnB, I'll check them out. Think the freight will be a killer but you never know!

Good point wahoo, I also have similar plans for 32mm aluminium. Do you know of a good shop to build alloy?

Just a thought, send Col (fisher boats) a PM and have a chat with him, Fisher do a great job with Alloy

Fisher boats are QLD as well but i'll keep it in mind. Think i'll have to move to QLD. Can't even find someone that can bend inch tube around here!

    Aren't Webster's made in Orange ?

Dont get a stainless steel launcher on a alloy boat as Daz mentioned.

Thanks for the advice Greg. I thing my alloy design is better anyway as it has a larger mounting surface area.
Webster's are made here but don't deal with the public according to their website. Guess no harm in dropping in and asking tho....

Took the advice on sticking to aluminium. Rocket launcher is being built by F & T Fab at Lake Macquarie out of 32mm and with some extras not in my diagram. Should be pretty solid. Will post pictures when it is fitted in a couple of weeks time. An excuse to head that way for a fishing trip! Cost approx $875 powder coated.

That's pretty cheap. Pity they weren't a bit closer. I have a few more parts on my design but still looks like mine will be a bit pricey. But then freight from QLD as well...

Hey there. I highly reccomend Arc Marine in Brisbane. They do a top job. They did mine on my plate boat. 12 months on they still look brand new.
    Cheers.
