    help for torn cast net

I have a small tear in my cast net.

Would be no more than 4" long in one of the pockets.

The net is 7', 3/4" and the mesh is made of monofilament. I do have the weaving device needed to do the job, but not the knowlege.

Also need to know what to use for the repair and where to get it. It doesn't seem to have anything missing, just looks like a straight tear.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: help for torn cast net

I ripped the lead line off my net last week. Picked up some twine from BCF and repaired it. Good as new.....almost.
Any good tackle store will have the twine material in varying thicknesses.
As for the correct knots to tie.....sorry, can't help you there.

Yep, use some mono, around 12lb will be suffient. Use figure 8 knots for a more secure repair

As it's made of mono makes sense to use same for repair... and yes I could do the obvious and simply mend the two sides (thanks for the figure of 8 Heath).

But was hoping for the directions to weave or tie..whatever.... in the event of losing some of the net.... knowing me that will eventually happen.

Simple holes are best repaired with wool. It won't rot or slip and a simple granny knot suffices tying the two ends of wool. If you use colour wool, fish attempting to escape the net when it's fully "ballooned" will avoid the wool, and you therefore protect a weak spot.

    Hi Roz
Ive had a go at the weave thing as described in a little yellow book called "How to make and repair cast nets".
I had a lot of trouble keeping the mesh size consistant and as it was a big tear I eventually gave up and stitched it together.
Ill try and find the book and scan the relevant diagrams for you.

cant describe how to knot it, ive always just tried until i found one that works. if theres no mesh missing it makes it easier because you dont have to form your own mesh. just give it a crack and spread it out when done and make sure it looks right.

we use thin white net nylon, but i like the idea of wool as kingtin said
