Rego question.
I want to fit a new motor to a new boat. The hull is rated to 60hp max by manufacturer. I want to fit a 70 to 75hp. Will I be able to register it? I have been in touch with manufacturer and he said it will void 2yr warranty. The transom is rated to 120 kg. A Tohatsu 70 is 115 kg and a merc 75 is 138kg.

G'day
Registration more than likely.
Insurance and warranty, not a hope in hell.
Whats wrong with a 60? What hull? Have you talked with the manufacturer about reinforcing the hull? some may upgrade ratings.

Re: Rego question.
I asked dealer to ask manufacturer to srengthen transom, he would not be in it. however he said they allow a bit extra margin anyway. the boat is a seajay 5.35m magnum. I have bought a 2nd hand alluminium targa top that measures 3.8m by 2.3m and weighs about 80kg, all up boat will be 850kg, would like extra hp for drag and weight factor.

Agree with Dave, Your insurance company will quickly point out the boat is overpowered, and not give a dam about the weight ratio.
