Why do you think you need a wonder weaver for? Please let me know what your doing before you blow $300 or more on some plastic.

i want a loom to make my 360 degree weaving easier difficult with tape when you got 300 odd design thraeds
is there any thing else i can use
Make your own mate, I did around 12 years ago and the jigs are still going strong. The one I made is sort of like the wonder weaver, have a look at diffrent jigs and go from there. By the way, when I made my jig it costs around $30 thats not including all the labour which was hours and hours to get right.
Stu
stuart are you willing to show me your design i dont know where to start
Have alook at the wonder weaver and see what ideas you come up with, think hard about it mate thats what I had to do. I will help you with the jig but im not going to give out photos of mine.
Stu
no worries thanks mate
stuart what did you use for the foam where do i get
High density foam at around 1/2 inch thick. Any foam place will have it mate.
Stu
thanks stuart
You will need to consider a few things with such a weave.
Firstly a 360 degree weave is not the easiest thing to achieve.
You will have to make sure you have worked out your design thread count and account for the taper as well.
Also be aware that the wonder weaver only holds 180 threads, so if you want a 300 thread pattern you'll have to make something yourself.
The wonder weaver is a patented piece of equipment, so I doubt anyone is going to give you instructions on how to copy it in a public forum.
I have some instructions on making a basic jig on my site using a couple of combs and some PVC, but that'll only allow you maybe 80 design threads or so.
Any more than that and you need something that goes right around the circumference of the rod like the wonder weaver.
To get 300 design threads means a spacing of 1.2 degrees between threads.
To get that and still have say 2mm between threads you'll need it to be at least 190mm in diameter. With only 2mm between threads it'll be a bugger to use and probably won't last long before the high density foam gives up the ghost.
Good luck with your weave!

Owen

thanks owen i have been doing 360 degree weaves for about 12 monhs now and am just going through too much tape plus i am alsogoing lind couning threads
My high density foam has lasted the 12 years since making it. 360 degree weaving is some times a nightmare using the old tape system, been there and wont do that again. To be honest mate, you realy need to site down and look at a blank for as long as it takes for the right idea to pop into your head. Sounds a bit nancy pancy I know but that’s what I did. Once you make a great jig other designs will soon follow, and then you won’t have any weaving restrictions at all. The jig I made more than halved the weaving time from 10 to 5 hours on very large marlin of 400 threads long by 130 threads deep.
As for allowing for the taper of the rod, its realy not all that much of an issue mate. If you pack the threads as you go then there won’t be any issue at all. I have done hundreds and hundreds of weaves over the years and never once did the taper issue come into the equation. I was thinking about selling my jigs but like all things these days, it will get copied and bastardised like every thing else.

Are we talking about a true 360 degree weave?
As in an endless pattern that wraps around the rod like a barber pole?
Or just a large weave that goes most of the way around a rod?
If it's just a large weave then yes, you can just pack and disregard the taper.
If you want a true 360 degree endless weave then you can't have a gap at all so you have to have exactly the right number of threads to fill the blank.
If there is a 1 or 2mm difference in diameter from one end to the other how do you account for it? That equates to several threads difference in an A thread.
If it's not an endless pattern then it makes no difference. The threads will fall where they fall.

Owen
