Mounting Electric Motor
Giday
I am about to purchase an electric motor for my 4 meter tinny, however I am unsure where to mount it as it is an old tinny with no place I can see to mount it on the front. I am thinking maybe attach it to the transom next to the outboard has anyone done this and does it work as well?? Any advice is appreciated

Re: Mounting Electric Motor
Hey,
Second go at this reply so sorry if its brief.
You will probably get a ton of responses on this. Depends on what style of fishing you do and why you want the motor. You can spend big $$$ on the front mount style motor that comes with brackets and foot (or wireless) control etc. And a motor on the bow pulls a boat really well (Vs a motor on the transom pushing it into the wind).
A much cheaper option is a transom mount, but pushing the boat is more difficult to control in current/wind etc. depends if you fish from middle or front of boat. Transom setup is much simpler/cheaper
Personally I just fitted a transom mount 54lb to a 4.6m tinnie. I wanted an auxillary motor to get me to shore and something to float me around flicking plastics occassionally and the price suits me. I dont mind casting from mid boat.
If you have the money go for a front mount and get a bracket welded on, otherwise if u r like me you'll probably be happy with a decent transom mount.
cheers.

Re: Mounting Electric Motor
Thanks Quinniedorry I do actually fish in middle of boat as well, I think I will go for transom ount appreciate your information. I am going to use it mainly just to hold the boat when the current is strong. How do they go on battery power do they drain the battery quick?? Thanks again

Re: Mounting Electric Motor
Hi Monkey,
The 54lb Watersnake I have recommends a 50A fuse. I guess the current drain would be somewhere 40-45amp at full power. I have a 100AH AGM battery, so Id expect to get around 2 hours at full power. Given Id only use full power occassionally then my 100aH would generally last me all day. On a smaller boat with smaller motor you might get away with say a 50aH battery.
