Its hard to remain rational and calm in those instance, but like someone else said I dont think any of us would have thought any less of you if you shook their hands with the gaff.

I have reported suspicious crap pot "checking" (seen pots dropped by family in one vessel, and checked by another vessel hours later) and reported it to police, with vessel rego details of both vessels and description of crew etc - and our location - I was told they would get a launch there ASAP. We continued to hang around for over 2 hours, and no show....

We called again and were told they were on to it (funny we never seen any police boat in the vacinity)...

Next time - if it was my property, and I seen them, I would be hard pressed not to take things into my own hands.... Politically correct or not - these turds only know one language.

A bit of a sideline I know but how do you tell if a pots a floater or been abandoned??

I've seen (maybe that should be I've hit them or had near misses with the tinny) floats in the middle of no-where all by themselves (usually you see a string of pots laid out) with no name and about 3 inches of slime and crap over them and the bit of rope you can see in the middle of channels but I haven't been game to pull them to see if they are 'lost' just encase they belong to someone who just happens to be watching with a shotty.
I hate floats you can't see (why do people use black oil bottles???) and floats in the middle of channels. Sometimes you have to make out like your in a downhill slaylem (is that right??)race to go along some channels to miss the bloody things
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Unfortunately the days of teaching them an old fashioned lesson are gone. May get a gut full of lead for your trouble. I don't crab anymore for this reason.

I am not up to speed with websites, but I don't think it would be hard to set one up, or make a section in a current one where photos could be posted of theives boats. Word would soon get around and they must have mates that dissapprove of their actions.

Also, police should be notified at the very least if it is to be solved.

I have not seen a crab pot story......... they might go for something new........ these guys have all sorts of video and audio resources.......

You would have to be able to offer them a pretty reliable result...... like know where to put your pots to guarantte they were poached.

Talking about name & shame........caught and shown on national TV theaving crab pots.........what would the reception be like next time at the boat ramp.

I do believe one member put a hatchet thru the bottom of some low lifes boat too.

    cheers
What an excellent idea! I'd watch that for sure, and you can guarantee if one of the current affair show does it the other will too! Could get twice the result.

It is bad enough to steal your catch let alone your pot. I lost 4 up boat creek tied to the mangroves and floats, would of loved to catch them.
