Mackay Lagoon + Teeemburra Barra
Went down to the lagoon's in north mackay twice this week. The first time my mate scored a Barra around 60cm and about half a dozen Tarpon to 40cm between us. The Barra on a cultiva and Tarpon on ecogear MW Minnow-and all on the bream gear.
Went back on Thursday and managed to pick up 3 rat Barra around 40cm on an ecogear MW minnow and 6lb string.
Charged out to Teemburra friday arvo in high spirits with an almost full moon and minimal wind, but didn't count on the big storm and the bloody rain..Anyways unlike Bass before a storm, the Barra didn't co-operate with our surface lures.
Next morning we were up at sparrows and throwing around lucky craft sammy and zippin ziggy surface lures in the bays and points, again for no result!! We then went up the back of the Dam and found some hotter water (27 degrees)and some feedin Barra, Managed to extract 3 Barra on the bream gear-6lb thread- the biggest going 68cm and 2 rats at 45cm, all caught twitching the good ol Ecogear MW minnow(72mm long). We were off the Dam at 8am.
Cheers

Matty
Nice fish there. Went up to teemburra myself yestersday arvo from about 5pm to 10pm. Did not get a single hit. The water was also very quiet with very little surface acivity. Most of the water aound the points varied between 26.5 to 28 degrees. The air temp really dropped dramatically once the sun went down to the point of a slight chill. Will have to try the goose ponds one day.

Good report.
I've often eyed off the Goose Ponds when in Mackay but am yet to have a flick there. Nice to know there are a few to be caught there.
Cheers,
fitzy..
