    #@%^&$@ steering

I have a teleflex system on my boat which kinda gave way today. It only goes in one direction. As soon as it reaches the middle dead point it misses the rachet. If you help it with your hands on the engine its all going again till its back to the middle position.Unfortunately its a sealed system so i cannot open up the box .Forget to mention its sometimes lose steering in both direction.Anybody who came across this problem? How do you fix it?

ps:It was a site coming back from the pin all the way to Carbrook. My 5 year old son at the wheel and me sitting in the back steering by hand against the hydraulics

ya need a new steering box manchild, then you need to see if the cable is ok or if the steering tube is clogged as you most probly have a partially seized steering cable which caused the box failure

                    Manchild,

I took the teleflex steering off my boat when only a few weeks old .... replaced with hydraulic.

Have helm unit, cable and wheel around somewhere in shed. You are welcome to it ....

I'm off for a day on water with the kids in about 1/2 hr or so ...will post model number after checking it tonight when back home.

It suits a 5.0 centre console with 80hp Yamaha (170kg).

If not suitable you can bin it ....

                    Regards

I just bought and installed a Safe-T-II NFB helm - planetary gear system. Hopefully yours is an isolated event. Teleflex have a good reputation.

                            Cheers and good luck.
