    Cacthing Small Poddy Mullet Techniques

My mate have just moved into a house that backs onto a small lake full of lots of poddy mullet - i was wondering what is the best way to go about catching these for bait? Cast nets are not allowed to be used so i asume some type of trap? Any idea's / techniques would be greatly appreciated.
    just one more cast........

the best poddy trap i ever used was homemade....a clear round plastic container with a 2-3 inch hole drilled in the top.....put some wieght in the bottom and set it on the flats so you have just a few inches of water covering the entrance....for bait i would use commercially bought pellets used in the aquaculture industry..it stores well so you can keep it for long periods if airtight.....just make sure you get the right size pellets for the fish you are targeting as they come in different sizes..i.e must be smaller enough for the fish to eat....i use to get heaps in Lake Macquarie using this method although i found that poddies are seasonal with spring being the best time down there...
    good luck....

like boombah said the best are homemade. the key is to have the opening just below the surface of the water, and move away from the trap, if they feel your presence (play psycho music here ) they will be skitterish and circle the trap all day, u can also use an old oyster bottle or even better an old fluro light tube, stuff the bread in one end

Id leave the old fluro tubes alone.... ... there is all sorts of nasty stuff inside a fluro tube... ... the older ones had mercury in them to help them strike....... it is posible to cut yourself on a fluro tube and end up in hospital with mercury poisioning.... if you are unlucky and droplts of mercury have formed on the section you cut yourself with.

beside I think modern fluro tubes would be e bit too skinny.

a section of clear plastic tube would work just fine & would be safe.
