Hi fellas. Hit the reef of Tannum Sands today 100nm round trip used 95 ltrs of fuel. My boat is a 493f Signature with the 70 suzie 4 stroke pushing her. Fishing was less than ordinary, but weather was pretty good. Now I hope Iam right in thinking that 95 ltrs is way to much fuel usage. What do you fellas think.
Ok thats 1.94km's per litre. I have a 90hp Direct Injection motor and i get 2.6 to 3 km's per litre. How old is the motor? You should be getting about 3km plus
My stinky 90hp does about that pushing a light but 6m boat, look at your prop if you need to open the throttle 2/10 further to obtain the same performance because you are overproped the extra fuel used will be relatively dramatic, can also work the other way but usually less so.
Polky, that sounds way too much fuel. I had a DF175 Suzuki on a 6.4m boat and got at least 1Nm/litre on trips like that.
Maybe your prop is the wrong size or engine it too low or high?
Hi fellas boat and motor are 5mths old, first 10 hr service will be done next week, will mention fuel usage to Mech. With to fishos 70kg,95ltrs fuel esky ice 20kg, extras 30kg, what prop do people recommened. Rig is mainly used to fish offshore, round trips approx 150nm, maybe I should have a fast prop. Any heip appriciated Polky.
With your usual load, at wide open throttle, the rpm should be in the middle of Suzukis rcommended max rpm range. If that is achieved you basically have the correct prop. There may be other problems though. Not trimming correctly or the motor height can significantly effect performance.
When you get it serviced see if the dealer will go for a ride with you and check it out.
What revs where you running the motor at for most of the trip? If you were running at high revs for a lot of the way this may be a reason it was a little more thirsty than usual. Running it at the 4000 - 4500 rpm range will be the most economical. I used to own the 60 hp version, which is the identical motor just detuned and it used to be far more economical than the figures your putting up and that was pushing a 5m Fisherman 5 Allison. I would have been getting close to 3 k's per litre with that in calm conditions.
