Question A question about tips if I may

    Gidday all you rodbuilders.
After reading another thread about tips I thought I'd ask this question.
Why do we all bind right up to the bottom of the tip???
With the new style of tip the binding doesn't usually go over the tip to hold it on so is the binding purely decorative or does it act as a seal to stop junk getting under the metal of the tip or ....what's the go???

Just of late I've changed a few tips and usually the bindings are upset by the removal of the old tip or re bunging on a new tip because of slightly different dimensions of the tips.
Because of this I've been doing the binding purely as a decorative thing and leaving a small gap (2mm) between the binding and the tip so future replacement of the tip will not damage the binding at all.
Am I dope for doing this??
    Will it damage anything??

Thanks for sharing information fellas (Roz and Sandy...you two are considered as fellas as well
    Cheers Scott

finga, for me, in most cases it is purely decorative to match the guides.
but, sometimes it is right up under the tip so that if it has an oversize pipe it will still fit nice & snug. thats all i've got..

Finga, When I replacea tip and the binding is damaged I remove the binding and never replace it.
I have never place binding close to tips as they are usually the first runner to be replaced.

    g'day mate

Don't think the binding makes much difference at all, if the tip is glued proper and the epoxy put on right the rest is all show mate.
    cheers

The difference would be that when (not if) the tip needs changing and the new tip is slightly different then you don't need to take off and redo the binding.
Everything can be kept original and tip changes a lot quicker....wham, bam thankyou maam
    In theory anyways
