    pelagic survey

Not a very interesting report but a few of you might find it useful. did a big circuit of the middle bay today from wello point to tangas and everything in between. no mackeral or longtail but there were decent numbers of 2-3kilo mack tuna, which are good indicators of areas that may hold spotties in months to come. The best activity was north east of mud, south of the 4 beacons and the sand flats close in just before tangalooma resort.

Did a similar trip yesterday with Bayfisher, saw little mac tunas just south of Tanga's, but no bloody longtails or mackerel anywhere....could be a little early perhaps, but you'd expect to see the odd pod of longtails somewhere

yeh its still to early to expect to see spotties feeding off the top, but is the odd schoolie or longy too much to ask for? i did see a couple of really big hits off in the distance which could have been single longies.

Did you hookup on any of those mack tuna?, as Vic1 said our trip yesterday was pretty disappointing, even the mack tuna were not playing the game.

I got one first up, but the schools were feeding too sporadically to really have a good shot at them and they were also sensitive to outbaord noise, i think if i put the effort into one area and waited until the tide started running out harder i would have scored a few more. My advice to anyone heading out for them would be to get ahead of their line of travel and cut the outboard asap, if you see them tailing put a cast ahead of them. The bait is there but the fish are still having problems getting it into big enough balls to go into proper feeding frenzies, the 4 beacons also had good schools of slimies or yakkas, i had the pleasure of seeing a pod of 20+ dolphins ball one of these schools up and smash the sh!t out of them.
