edencraft 565 175 optimax vere happy

about six months ago or so i bought the weapon from warren at edencraft boat i went the 175 optimax i was never a real fan of mercs before. i bought the hull and trailer new. the motor had 16hours on it. anyway ive got a navman 4500 with fuel computer the first day out, i was impressed with motor hole shot acceleration was great it came with a laser 2 prop 19 pitch does about 85km an hour at 5800 rpm the hull weights 920kg /140lt tank . ive been hittin the snapper the last few weeks. its about my 6th trip, i finished the final fitout a few weeks back and have been running to a spot about 40km round trip ,have been getting fish every trip. but i was stoked on the fuel economy running there at 4800 revs about 70km hour the motor seems to purr about that range comparing the fuel usage to the gps mark about 6 times i was amazed that i only used 24 to 25 litres of fuel and that was going there pretty quick. another good thing is no 2 stroke fumes easy stating no choke no idleing up the motor purrs beautiful. any one else out there with a optimax to compare specs cheers

thanks for the info. we are looking to purchase a seatime 28ft rig from williams marine on the GC and most likely put a pair of 225 optis on it to hit the max 450 hull rating...i much prefer the idea of a 2 stroke to a 4 stroke if similair levels of noise, fuel consumption and emmisions can be acheived in a lighter, cheaper to maintain package

    I have a 225 Opti on my Haines 635L.

It has done 850 hrs with no trouble at all. It is a great engine. Fuel enconomy is superb. I average 1.3-1.4 km/l and that is carrying 4-5 people and some big loads of diving gear. Cruise speed of around 55kph using about 37L/hr and a top speed of 85kph. They are simply a good donk. Its got me buggered why they dont get more reconition on sites such as this, instead of all this Etec crap

I'm thinkin a opti might be a good choice for my boat with its non-bouyant pod design hmm

Berger, I have two 175 opti's on my cat. They have about 200hrs on them now.

The motors average 2.5 lt/km so the boat gives back 1.5 lt /km so I am pretty happy with that. This is at 60km/h by the way (cruise).

The motors were new in 04, when I bought it there was 140 hrs on them. One of them has just done a bearing in the compressor which seized and broke the belt and the mount, $1100.

I am putting this down to them sitting around. The boat was moored it whole life so this will add to maint on the engines / lack of use. I will see if the other one packs it in or not. I am going to replace the bearing in it if I can before this happens.

Performance wise I am very happy, boat is over powered, will spin 21s to 51Kn, runs 19s though. I think the opti's are good value for money though.

I do have a 175 honda on my other boat and don't get the same economy.

i just want to ask i was looking at you trailer. i see a few trailer at the moment that have no centre rollers. do you have any problem with the gelcoat cracking. speaking to a couple of fiberglass mobs.have said the strongest part of a hull is the keel the trailer that came with my boat has about 20 or so rollers up the guts with about four set of wobble rollers at the back and four sets of teflon skids to guide you onto the centre rollers. its built by easy tow. ive never had a trailer like yours.what do you think about it. i might put out a new thread and see what other people think

    Cheers RB
i see you trailer has no centre rollers do you have any trouble with cracking the gelcoat where the rollers sit.how long have you had the trailer for . the one the i got from easy tow has rollers up the guts wobble rollers at the back and skid on the sides so you dont hit the trailer. im no expert but i have heard if you do a fair bit of traveling going over bumps etc you can crack the gelcoat with the constant bumps etc. what do you think. i might start a new thread and see what peolpe think
