I've been on 4 trips to the Swains now aboard the Carlo which leaves from Yeppon near Rocky. Its a fishing boat far from luxury but you're well looked after it has 4 dorys to go out and fish from and he'll get you out there in all but the worst of weather. The crew has always been good and so has the price.
Been with the MV Australiana out of Gladstone twice with two different crews. Both were great trips
I dont know about a charter boat to go out on, but I do know there is a barge that leaves Gladstone, it takes you and your boat out to One Tree Island which is just south of the Swains Reef area.
It works out cheap for large groupes, in fact its an awsome trip. If you have a large trailer boat they pick it up in slings and drop it in the water when they reach the island.
Most groups go out for 2 weeks.
And man do they catch some fish. Lots of dry ice water and beer is on the cards ha ha.
anyone got any phone number or company names? I'd be keen to take my small boat out there on a barge, or go on a charter
I dont know the Telephone Number but there is the main tackle shop near the pond in Gladstone they would know who it is. Keep in mind you need a groupe of people to go 25 I think.
Hey how I found out about it was some guys at a truck stop, I was living south of Gladstone and they were on the way home, they only had a small rubber ducky with a 6 horse on it.
They fished the perimiter of the island and they cleaned up on Trout and Sweet Lip. They did say no trout on a Northerly Wind.
I know Carl of Carlo's charters, and been on there a coupla times too, good bloke, boat is getting old but still does the job and boy oh boy does he feed you well !!
If men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, politicians must be from uranus ?
Been on the Norval, good boat great feed and operated by the owner so it's his bum on the line.

Mate I can highly recommend The MV Norval Scotty Wilson will put you onto the fish. Top class service as well.
Have been doing the swains thing for 16 years now aboard boats firstly out of Gladstone for 4 years aboard the australiana (ok but very rock and rolly)and then 11 years out Yeppoon. Not the Carlo but the other operator from that port, was ok but a bit ruff but then got really bad. This bloke now operates the "Bell Cay" with Clivey as skipper and is probably ok now but I wouldn't trust the owner again. Last year got a booking on the Tura off Gladstone and strongly recomend this boat and operator (Chris & Ellen Pike - 0749781342 ) best sea boat I've been on and nothing is a problem and nothing broke. They were commissioning a 2nd vessel "Eastern Explorer" when I last spoke to them so they may have a few vacancies. Can recommend them highly and am going again next October - give them a ring and tell them Merv sent you.
