Gday fatboyfishing' IMHO you are limiting your self big time if planing around the full moon only'
There will be hundreds of boats and lunatics fishing Monduran over the next few full moons . I fish the place a lot and I'm not convinced that the full moon fishes any better than any other part of the cycle. Some of the best fishing I've had @ Monduran has been around the black or new moon
Why was it good? Probably because i had been where the fish were i guess! Monduran is a great 24 hr all month fishery and you can get some awesome bite sessions in the middle of the day on any moon mate'

    Cheers Les

Agree with Les. Heat and weather is more important than moons.

Yep... fish whenever you get the chance mate, not when some so called hunk of cheese up in the Sky is at it's peak smiling down at you. Casting on full moons are always a little more comfortable for the angler but you can catch these big Barra on any moon phase... they will always be firing in some spot at a certain time - just a matter of being there.

Ive had alot of success with the full moon, none of which had anything to do with fishing, I was taking my G/friend out who is now my wife (hang on maybe I was fishing for something) I can't remember it was too long ago, when I look at the moon these days I generally have a beer in my hand, You have a great trip FBF, Cheers Whitto

full moon trips are very busy trips, be ready for a walk from the boat ramp, and some ramp rage.

It does make it easier to nav around the basin while trolling, until clouds obscure the moon.

Agree with Les & Steveb Full Moon is not the only time to catch big barra I catch more on the no moon phases at night a lot harder to see, but hey your lure rattles different if you put it a tree. I've found the best times for night fishing at Monduran have been dusk to about 8.30, 11.30 to about 2.00am then just before dawn till 9ish

    Cheers Foxie

Ps this might change with weather conditions etc and is a rough guide I fish by

Well no it does not make much difference the way i see it if your not fishing your not catching. Barra seem much more dependent on temprarure then the moon, find hot water and find the fish.

The main reason you hear of more fish being caught when the moon is full is because more blokes fish then, many of whom are also full.

Which is reason enough to dodge popular fishing spots when the moon is full.

Agree with all comments above. Moon is of little influence and other factors are far more important.
In saying this, if you plan on fishing the thick timber at night, it's near damn impossible to do on a new moon. I've tried it a couple of times and it's impossible to cast (to structure) when you can't see your hand in front of your face. Fishing the main basin is a bit easier as you do get some light but the timber is tough to fish. Benefits are that you don't see many boats fishing the timber at night (irrespective of moon phase) and secondly, you don't need to cast hard up against the structure as the barra are generally cruising or more willing to come out and play.

If you trolling on the full moon - join the queues. I was at Monduran on the weekend and counted 90 trailers at the ramp! We got there at 4.15am and didn't get the boat wet until 5am due to the crowds. INSANE.

How bad does Monduran get in the warmer months as far as crowds go?? Easter was packed, but the people there told me it is generally pretty quiet at other times...this doesn't seem to be the case
