Re: portable hot water systems - coleman vs primus

mate I love my Coleman. I had the first one replaced shortly after I purchased it because mid Straddie camping it failed to fire up. The replacement was great and still works - 3 years later. It gets very hot if you want and is very easy to use. Clever design. I like that you can charge it off the car battery and use whilst charging. The little 6 volt must be quality because it lasts a few days without charging.

Good machine and I looked at the Primus and glind and even one from a bloke up north who makes one that looks like a rocket, because getting the Coleman.

    Cheers

Thanks a lot for all the info and opinions, guys. All very useful info.

I ended up going for the Coleman and it's working a treat so far. As someone else said, you can't run it directly from 240v which is a little annoying. But I'm very happy with it apart from that. Gets very hot and is definitely not limited to 20deg above ambient. However the salesman at the camping store told me it is limited to around 70deg as opposed to the Primus which is not limited at all so could potentially produce boiling water.

Definitely a fan of the Coleman so far however I'm still sceptical about the life span of the rechargeable battery so I think I'll be investing in a spare one of those.

    thanks again.

I have had two of the Primus systems and both failed with the same fault . They can be difficult to light and have to be relit for each shower. I got my money refunded and spent the bit extra on a Bosch hot water system . Runs off my Flowjet spear pump , and is always ready , turn on shower head and instant hot water at any time of the day or night . If you have a decent water supply this is the way to go. Wayne.

    Giday Lobster,
I have the primus model. Brought it at the brissy caravan and camping show about 3 years ago now for about $200.00. Plugs into cigarette lighter in car or camper trailer,I use a 2 kilo primus gas bottle, uses bugger all gas. showered wife and me and two teenage boys for a weeks camping on moreton, still heaps of gas left at end of trip. Not fantastic water pressure, i can have a decent shower and use about 5 litres of water. Have to say one of the best bits of camping gear i have brought, In winter set up in a pop up shower tent she gets fairly steamed up. Temperature control is good, you couldnt stand under it turned right up. And hey, if i can keep the missus happy campin then im happy! Cheers
