Anaconda outdoor supplies at Everton Park in Brisbane had the Daiwa Sol for $230 recently on sale. What a bargain. If you can still get one at that price. Grab it.
hey guys a got my t curve yeasterday and im now ready to purchase a reel to match it.
rod specs are- 1 piece.7ft.2-5kg.(cant remember casting weight)
i was thinking of putting a daiwa tierra 2000 on it.
rod will mainly be used for flatty/squire. (occasional macks/tuna) etc....
i no if it was dedicated for tuna and macs i should go faster gear ratio but its only as a spare for that as i already have an outfit for them..
budget is $220..
do u think i have the right reel for the rod or can u suggest somethign better?

I'd go up to a 2500 size for the extra line capacity for the occasional mac t and the bigger spool will help casting distance too.
Should be a nice rod for plastics. Is the 7 foot still nice and beefy in the Butt? I have a 6"6, 2-5 kg i use for plastics and it's awesome. Heaps of turning power. I have two lighter Tcurves as well. Both 7ft, 2pc, XL models set up with 3 and 4 pd braid for estuary fishing.
yeah man the rod has a ton of grunt down low...
i was looking at the 2500 size but it looked funny on the rod..(looked to big for it)
the tierra 2000 size is the same size as a shimano 2500
You won't find a reel as good as a sol for 230. Be quick.. chop chop. get a sol 2000. Thats what i would go if i was inclined to buy another reel. Although my 2500 sits fine on the 6"6. I wouldn't worry about how it looks as much as how it balances out. Your going to be doing a lot of casting with it.
Easily the most refined spin reel in 300 dollar range.
I have the same rod ,when i got it i put a shimano stradic 2500 on it and it was great but recently i put a daiwa sol 2500 on it and it is a much better reel .As flattie said a sol can be picked up for around $220-230 if you barter hard . The difference in these two reels is vast ,dont get me wrong the stradic is a good reel[you can pick them up for less than $150 i beleive] but once you get the sol in your hand there is no going back .I use mine for snapper in the bay and both reels have regularly caught snaps in the high 60cm and a couple of 70cm the best has gone 76cm so both reels are certainly up for what you want i suspect ...matt
A bad days fishing has got to be better than any day at work......
yeah i like the sols..i have herd from reputable fishing outlets that there is not a whole lot of different between the sol and tierra?can someone confirm...?
Go a Sol in the 2000 or 2500 size awesome reels!! Got 2000 myself!
I really don't mean to try and peddle my gear in here... but hey why not.
I have a Shimano Twin Power 2500 that i used to have on a very similar rod (1-3kg) that matched it perfectly.
Funnily enough, i've got it for $220 too.
hey man by all means let your opinion flow..im not set on any real yet..i just like the tierra's for some reason..my mate has a twin power and they are really nice
the Tierra and the Sol look similar on paper. although the Sol is made in Thailand (i think) and the Tierra is made in China. I'd pick the Sol over a Tierra myself. I looked at the Tierra when they came out and wasn't impressed with the pepper grinder gears compared to equivalent shimano offerings. the Sol is a definite step up.
Your right about the 2000 diawa equiv sive to 2500 shimano.
For the record. I have a couple of Shimano Symetres, 1 x 2500 & 1 x 1500. the body and rotor is the same on each so i can swap spools between them. allows me to go from 1500 to 2500 with just a spool change. very handy if you don't want to carry a bag of reels around and i can be fishing 4lb for bream and switch to 8lb for squire real easy.
cheers Roo
Hey mate,
ive got the same rod matched up with a twin power 2500, cant remember how much i paid but its a damn fine rig. great for bay snapper and mackeral etc. although i wouldnt recommend that rod for tuna. IMO not enough grunt down low. its pretty hard to break a tuna's circling pattern. might get sharked.
Just on the stradic, the new model is now out so check out the 2000 stradic, either that or the sol would be fine but i would go the new stradic.
