    Clemant State Forest camping???

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the deal for camping the the Clemant state forest north of Townsville between Toolakea and Rollingstone? I've heard you can camp there but can't find any info on the QLD Government site or anywhere else.

Has anyone got any info, eg how to get to the camping area (if there is one), or is it just bush camping etc?? Good fishing spots in the area would be useful too . Any info would be appreciated.

    thanks heaps

Hi mate, do you mean the beach side of the highway or the bush side?
If it's the beach, you can go to Toomulla and then head north along some tracks which lead to the beach. Can get pretty boggy at times. This weekend has large tides so the saltpans would be tricky. I haven't been there for a few years so don't know about now but the locals do not like being the 'tow truck' for bogged people.

It's pretty much bush camping mate. There are a few huts out on the beach, some are quite disgusting and some people need to start taking all their crap out with them. Just drive up the beach and you should be able to find a nice little spot.
You could also try Ollerra creek just north of Rollingstone, opposite the Crystal ck turn off. When you drive in you'll come to a set of powerlines, turn left and head north until you hit the fence line, turn right and follow that out to the beach. Head back south, you will see a crappy little hut up above the beach line. Not much to look at, but there is a little creek down behind that that holds some good Jacks.
You can also get to the mouth of Crystal creek by hitting the beach and heading north.
If you head straight through the power lines you will come out just north of the mouth of Ollerra ck, I have heard it's ok fishing, I've never tried, ot at low tide you will see rock formations, I think they're old Aborignal fish traps. Meant to be good fishing out of that.
