Pine River, any Speed Limit ?

General question; Is there any posted speed limit in the Pine River ?

I note some boats cruise along as if they are observing a speed limit and others will plane along.

I am aware of the skiers from the Bruce Highway overpass further inland, although feel sorry for the odd tinny having a quiet fish off to the sides as these guys race by......

Some boats always slow down as they go past deep water bend boat ramp others don't change their speed.

I think you will find that the speed limit for any body of water listed as smooth waters unless otherwise sign posted is 40kn Also the speed limit within 30m of any pontoon, ramp, moored boat, people swimming is 6kn.

I live at murrumba downs and fish the pine alot.
its a very populare place for water sports .
i always slow down near other boats to be safe.
lots for familys with little kids take them on there first fishing trip .
i myself had to rescues one cos he fell out when a boat flew past.
slow down and be safe.

Your right, I take my little bloke fishing and were careful when standing when traffic is around. Some guys are considerate, some not so.

I think courtesy is key here.

not being smart or sarcastic but to pass other fisherman in boats on the plane causes less waves than slowing until your off the plane but will stand to be corrected! around water skiiers etc I can understand but given space enough on the plane causes less ripples.

The rule is: " 6 knots.....no wash" If you give off wash at 6 knotts, then you are breaking the law. 6 knots is the max (if you're not giving off wash).........whatever it takes to not give off wash is the rule............even if that's 2 knots. Speed really has no bearing..............the law is "NO WASH"

This is kind of my question ? I am new to boating and want to do it right so seeking some guidance as far as boat speed in the Pine goes.

The "Beacon to Beacon" shoes the Pine with a dotted red line, ie: reduced speed, although does not specify to what.

My observations are that I also leave less wake when on the plane. However, clearly, I am well over 6 knots.

Hi M8 there is a 6 knot area from the boat ramp at the end of Bald Hills road till the first right hand turn in the creek,its posted 6 knt but Ive only ever seen 1 other bloke actually doing this speed ,if fools keep planning down this stretch of water it may be closed off in the future the speed limit is set as the bank along the edge of the park is slowly starting to fall in due to the water action caused from flat out boats,thats the only 6knt area im aware of in the pine, Happy fishing Snas

Not particularly, unless there are boats in your way. The above statement was merely to clarify the law. This misconception of many is that 6 knots means just that...............it doesn't. It means no wake. In other words, if you see a 6 knot sign and you are doing 4 knots but putting out wake, despite being under the speed, you are breaking the law. The law is "no wake"
