Try jigging some berkley jerk shads in a 7 inch. Nuclear chicken colour. Buy some jigheads to suit. I recommend you get the berkley soft plastics dvd. All your Questions will be answered.

    hey
if u know a freddies fishing worl in the area, i strongly reccomend you buy yourself softies reefgliders, they are the bigger version of the rackgliders, they only sell at freddies fishing world.

if u cant find a freddies fishing world flickbaits by squidgies work well in a pearl colour, but try a variety of lures and u will strike gold on a favourite lure

    hope i helped

yep 5 or 7 in Jerkshads (any brand) 3/0-5/0 hooks and jig head size dependant on speed of current. Drifting over locations with rods in rod holders
( believe it or not ) SP's on the bottom the swell does the work. If you have to anchor due to snagging. Cast out and retrieve with slight jigging action back to the boat. Just make sure you have at least a rod length of leader(i use a double uni) and a standard blood knot at the jig head.

How this helps, others have their own way of doing it but I was taught this way from some other Ausfishers after they had done the hard work figuring out the tactics and now I get onto a few fairly regularly.

Even go down to 4" Berkley Bass Minnows but in that depth of water I would be on 1/4oz or if windy or using heavy gear 3/8oz jig heads. Fish as light a jighead as possible. 5" SPs are what I am mostly using. Not a huge fan of Gulps. Once they are out of the packet you have to get rid of them at the end of the day and they can be one bite or one fish - one tail down the drain. Other brands I am getting a few fish on.

I'm new to SP's as well, but I'll try anything once. I have put a swivel about 500mm away fron the jig head. Is this necessary, or do you tie the line directly to the head?

Figure out your drift pattern, then start a drift ahead of your target area casting ahead of the drift into your target area- try and stay in close contact with the plastic (don't let the line get too loose, but also don't keep it completely tight - some belly is helpful). I think this method is called 'drift casting' and it works well. I'm not a big fan of dragging the plastic behind the drift - I always try and cast ahead of the drift.

17-19m of water isn't too deep and if your drift casting 1/4 to 3/8 of an ounce should be heaps. Try and even go lighter if you can. If the plastic is sinking too fast you won't get as many hits - it may seem easier to use a heavy jighead, but the results won't be as good.

The berkley bluewater DVD is worth checking out also.

    good luck.

Tie the line directly to the jighead, the plastic shouldn't spin if it does it is rigged wrong (off centre)
