I'm trying to find reviews on the Raymarine A65 so I can (paper) compare it to the Furuno GP7000f. I noticed a few guys from Ausfish are in the process of installing the A65. Does anyone know of any reviews on the A65 or can they shed some light on the units featured, performance etc??? There is plenty of gumpf on the GP7000f on the net but next to nics on the A65. Is the A65 that new? CheersScott
Scott,
Prior to me buying an A65 someone wrote a largely negative thread on the unit and this was answered covering all/most of the negative comments. So do a search. I bought my unit after the Adelaide boat show and paid from memory $2300 the equivalent Furuno I believe costs around $4500. Also bought the Navionics card. The $2300 was a show special around Australia to help give the unit a bigger profile, could cost up to $2800 now. I am still in the install process so cannot give you an opinion.
Peter
I think saw the thread wasn't it was aimed more at the Raymarine RC435 plotter and yes someone did take the time to respond positively. I'm tending towards the A65 because it is a complete package, it is Raymarine kit, and the price is right. Whitworths have them on special for $2295 until this Saturday. Whitworths have said that they are selling quite a few and no complaints.
I have recently purchased an A65 & in the process of installing too.
There are a few threads here & in other sites about it, and the one Peter mentioned here (about the A65, not 435 as you think). My decision was between the A65 & GP7000f. Haven't had raymarine before but Furuno in my + family boats for the last 30+yrs or more, so it took a bit to sway me away from furuno.
A65 had better features, better screen & contrast, digital sounder, navionics cartography, plus a few more which i thought important at the time, but elude me now. Pricing was similar for both.
cheers
My mistake on the RC435. I have had a few PM's on the A65 and no one has said a bad thing. All are raving about the A65 particularly the FF capabilities.
