    Question Electronics guru needed

Just wondering if any of you electronic gurus can tell me if my garmin gps 126 will talk to my jrc ff50 through the nmea port, The garmin has nmea 0183 version 1.5 & 2.0, the ff50 has nmea0183 input but dosn't say what version, I wired it up but nothing showing on ff50 input test ? Do these ports have data in + & - or just the one wire? checked all the pins & menu settings tryed a few different things but still nothing, any info would be appreciated or coments on how these things talk to each other would be good.

    Cheers Pete.

Hmm. As far as I know, the protocol is backwards compatable. So if your JRC is version 2, and the Garmin 2.3, it should still work.
Dont wanna make you out the fool here, but you are thinking of Data OUT of gps, INTO the jrc, and OUT of the jrc INTO the gps???? Also, the ground, will be the power ground, ie the black cable.
I also think that the baud rate on the gps has to be around 4800. (ans I read with mine that 'parity check' should be OFF.

    Re: Electronics guru needed

I just done data out of gps to jrc , does it need data back into gps from jrc as well?as for jrc version there is nothing in the manual about it? jrc data common is this the data ground for jrc? parity check? is this on gps or jrc ? what is parity check?
Sorry about all the questions but it's not easy when you don't know much about this stuff.

    Gidday matey.
Firstly did you set up the I/O format of the 126 ie the language the unit talks in.
It should be set to NMEA-NMEA not the standard Garmin-Garmin mumbo jumbo
It's on page 44 of the manual.
I would connect the data output and also the data inputs between the two units.
In the 126 manual on page 59 there is a good diagram of the connections from the GPS.
Just substitute your sounder for the DBR21 beacon.
I can't find a diagram or destruction manual for the FF50 on the net so is it possible to get a better picture of the wiring configuration??
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Finga is onto it mate. The gps needs to be connected I think to the nmea plug, not the gps plug by the looks of it. The pin numbers are the same. Pins 3 and 4.
Finga, attached is the diagram, you are right!! it took some finding!
