Hex heads work well for hoo , and they seem to like the Gold.black .purple colours. The big problem with hex heads is they like to be pulled quick eg 13- 15 knots yes knots!! this burns alot of fuel but some days when nothings working a hex head trolled at this speed WILL get you a fish when everything else just get ignored. I always have a few onboard when trolling for hoo or tuna just incase it's a slow day!

don't be to worried about trolling hex heads at the recomended speed ( 12 to 18 knots ) i troll the tweed area and quite often troll 300 gram hexs with resin heads at 4 to 8 knots. they just run deeper than the resin heads. and have had some great hook ups over the years.wahoo, dolphin fish, small blacks, spanish.if you want to try a realy good color try silver or blue under skirt.clear top skirt.realy lights in the water like a squid. goes off.

Bait, current lines , changes in water temp. birds working to name a few. but as i stated trolling high speeds is expensive better to try pulling some pushers( pakula's ,pitbulls , etc ) and when you find likely areas and they haven't produced try your high speeds. Studying sea surface temps will give you a good idea where to start looking for the above signs , your chasing warm areas of water and more importantly the cooler water beside these warm areas
