    Re: Trolling enquiry??

Like some of the guys said they are sometimes feeding on extremly small bait fish and won't take anything else at times
And as we all know sometimes they just arn't on the chew

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

Has anyone tried towing a Saltwater Fly, would it work?

    Re: Trolling enquiry??

Get rid of the wire and run light mono fluro carbon leaders (40lb), tuna will avoid wire at times. Try Halco's in purple/chrome deep divers +5m or +8m - remove the centre treble - troll at a speed where they do not blow out, A long shot lure (50-80m out the back will quite often grab fish if they are not taking lures in close. Usually Mack tuna eat anything so somthing you are towing is putting them off. What size line are u using?

    Nick
It was the boat's gear, we were using , my guess 80-100lb mono main line , flexable stainless wire on some , single strand on others.
    I ran one corner short,, 25mt s & one long 90ish
Ill try the Halcos & remove a treble trick next trip.
Knowing my luck Ill rig 40 lb flouro leaders and get belted by the razor gang ( its Murphy's law)

Thanks for your advice Ill give it a try on some of my lures ,I dont want to burn Tims gear.

    Cheers

A lure that never seems to miss for me is the red and white Halco laser pro. Almost every time i troll i get a hook up many different species, Spaniards to tuna, to coral trout.

Speed should be from 5 to 6 knots uless you useing a skirt than up to 9 knots.

    Cheers Rod....

    Re: Trolling enquiry??

Long tail are a very fussy eaters and will sometimes ignor every thing thrown at them, as for all the other species mentioned they are very agressive feeders and im supprised you didnt get a few strikes .
speed is not that critical anywhere from 5 to 15knots is fine for most tuna and mackeral and a wahoo can exceed 70KPH to grab ( or cut in half ) anything it wants.

May i suggest you pull in your trolled lures and try casting at them next time and see if you can hook one then

All that aside sometimes you just have one of those days where you cant get anything

Good luck mate i hope you get some next trip
