Thread: Evinrude E-tech vs Honda 4 stroke

Re: Evinrude E-tech vs Honda 4 stroke

this will never end, I have said it a thousand times (almost) sure a 4 stroke is quieter, AT IDLE! look at the data sheets, at cruise/WOT they are almost the same, fuel use over a RANGE of conditions (like fishing) will be almost the same, weight is USUALLY slightly in favour of a 2 stroke, oil use ,burn compared to change and chuck away (with an over priced filter) will even out over time, some need a timing belt change as well, so over a period, it will not really be better/cheaper to run and own a 2 stroke over a 4 stroke, regardless of how many argue about what THEY own, all new motors are good, but all DEALERS are not, so let that come into your decision as well, no use saving a couple of hundred now, only to be pissed off later at service time!

    Ok, I've blown my nose.

At the end of the day, I've got one and am very happy with it.

For the advertising part of the arguement, that's American advertising for you.

I just don't see the point in bagging other motors when "at present" there is no evidence to prove otherwise.

I have had Yamaha outboards before, and our water police boat is presently fitted with twin Suzuki's but I just don't feel the need to bag them when something goes wrong with them.

Why don't we use e-tecs on our boats and the like's of the fisheries, "purchase price" and government partnerships with certain brands / dealerships.

Anyway, as long as it's reliable and will get you in and back at the end of the day, its really about the quality and quantity of fish in your esky after a day out.

that was my point, if you are happy with your motor , even if it is an old carby 2 smoke, who cares! the argument will never end, just like holden V ford, sure it's great fun when you have had a few beers and you start talking sh!t at the Pub, but at the end of the day, I would buy and own almost ANY brand on the market, 2 or 4 stroke and take whatever pluses and negatives that come with it.

NO, But I have owned a couple of Fords and Holdens, I now have a Landcruiser and a Subaru Imprezza, so I must be able to start some sort of debate with that lot!

hey guys, just adding my opinion.
i have a 4 stroke suzuki. when we were buying i looked at the etec. back then i thought it was a great engine and i still do. i also think the other brands of 2stroke need to catch up.
i didn't go any further because the sales person couldn't sell the motor to me, his sales pitch was all about how a 4 stroke has to many moving parts to fail, cam shaft, valves and a timing belt etc.
4 stroke engines have been around a long time and are very reliable!!
i just got the wrong sales person at the time, i have watched that promo dvd and see the same sales pitch that 4 strokes have too much that can go wrong.

i like the engine for what it is, a massive improvment i 2 stroke technology, the sales marketing can be much better!!

    cheers, shappy
