Awesome report Pete. You really know how to mix it up... Looks like mad fun.
Trying not to get distracted by all these Jack reports coming in I have had my mind fixed on chasing some big fish off the stones as it still remains an addiction for me... .
I have just spent the last two days chasing longtails and mackeral with a good mate of mine and a land based game freak 'Goshie'.
The first day of the trip was an early one and we were up at 3.30am and on the rock ledge by 4.15am to see the magic sunrise and spin at prime mackeral time.
No spaniards but we did manage to land some small doggie mackeral and mack tuna on 85g slugs.
As soon as the sun rises its longtail time and you can actually see pods of longtails cruise past the ledge very quickly so you can sight cast at them.
The unfortunate part is,is there are some VERY BIG and VERY hungry sharks that patrol the area waiting for an easy feed.... .
The longatils must have cruised past about twenty times the first day and we had several hook ups that were lost to sharks.
I did sight cast one nice fish at 14kg and somehow manage to avoid being sharked..After a good 25minute fight on spin I was a happy man.
After that we decided to pull out the heavy artillery and play with a shark or two.
Well,it took all of 10 seconds to hook a BIG bull shark that ate a massive slab of mack tuna we had caught earlier. We fought the shark for well over an hour and got him next to the rocks and then set him free....
Day two and we are again on the rocks by 4.15am and spinning our arms off.
Not much action untill the change of the tide when I hooked what I think was a spaniard but I ended up pulling the hooks on him as the sharks were cruising once again. 'Goshie' also pulled the hooks on a good spaniard.
The longtails cruised past a couple of times in the afternoon but the sharks remained a big problem so we pulled the pin and headed home.
Awesome trip and I am ready for the next.
Cheers

Nice LT Pete, they're a clean looking fish aren't they?
Pity about the pulled hooks on the Spaniards, next time mate.
How big do you estimate those Whalers????
Cheers Jeff.
You are a braver man than me. Tangling with a shark that size on the edge of an almost unclimbable (is there such a word???) rock ledge takes big kahuna's.
Nice work on the LT, very nice looking fish.
Mate that's Unreal good Effort mate cheers Chris

Hey Jeff,
BIG.....The bull we had beside the rocks would have been a good 100kg...
We hooked one of those spinner sharks later in the day and had in on for 3 hours and it eventually arced into a bay and rubbed us off.....The 3 hour effort was very draining and we passed it round between 4 of us....back breaking work.
