    Hi Ya,
I feel at this point I will put my 2cents worth in, I believe that the 585 has reverse polarity guarding so an internal fry up is unlikely.I have one and the instructions on insallation do`s and dont`s are quite clear..I agree.
    Cheers Phil

very true , but what i was getting at was the questions about whether fuses were needed or not , and a voltage spike will do damage . all very basic questions and maybe such a exspensive gadget is not the best way to learn how to do your own wiring .

i wasnt trying to be a smartarse or insulting but more trying to save the guy some grief .

    cheers

Hey Klainz, how did you get on with the install?

I've a pile of furuno boxes in the corner of my lounge room and a new crimping tool and am going to have a go at installing them tomorrow.

Matey thats a realy good unit you have and I would guess its going on your pride and joy. It sounds like your looking for advice and the best advice you have been given is to talk to Grand Marlin he fits them for a living. If your nice he may even give you some running tips on your sounder. Polky. PS. Gm has never done any work for me, but guys on this fourm put him in high reguard, good enough for me.

If you're still thinking about giving it a crack yourself it took me about three hours to install a furuno sounder and gps and a multiplexer today. I've not installed any electrical stuff before (although I read the manuals many times) but it all works the way it should with the sounder picking up position info from the gps.
