    help new casting combo

    gday,

im looking to get a new casting combo for the yellowbelly i will be tackling this summer i was thinking a shimano curado or revo stx and for a rod i was thinking a shimano raider or a penn pin point tournament please give me your thoughts, is the 100 size curado too small, if so what 200 size will be good i will be using it for casting lcb's and other hardbody lures, budget of about $400 for combo

    cheers

90% of the tournament guys use shimano and diawa, that should tell you something

Mate, any combo mentioned above will handle yellowbelly with ease, there not known as hard fighting fish but they are fun. I used to catch them on home made bamboo bobbing rods when I was a kid. I voted the curado strapped onto a raider....that's quite a few steps up from a piece of bamboo I think.

    Hi Muzza,
I meet Mr Dave Hodge at a casting comp,And he gave me a demo/lesson in casting. What this bloke can do with a rod and casting plug will blow ya mind.It just reinforced to me the fact that :- In the hands of an experienced angler,Even $100 rods can be deadly effective.

The Pinpoints seemed to be very robust,Made quite well,And were nice to cast.I thought they were very good bang for the buck.

Although I've never actually used one (Revo STX) But I have had a bit of a play in the shop,And they look to be a good solid,Quality unit.I've also heard nothing but praise from guys that own and use em.

The Pinpoint and revo combo got my vote.
The underlying spirit of angling,Is that the skill of the angler,Is pitted against the instinct and strength of the fish,And that the latter is entitled to an even chance for his life. Regards, Hardb8.Kickin tails and razin scales since 1979.

I would have to agree as to the comment about Hodgie's casting- its freakish. I am also in the market for a similar combo and have narrowed the field down to either the raider or pinpoint rod and revo stx, curado 200 or the daiwa advantage hsta reels. Think i will end up goin the daiwa advantage hsta on a pinpoint.
Just as a side note, i have just read hodgies blog page and he gives a good perspective of the average priced fishing tackle still of high quality that does an admirable job even when compared to the expensive equipment. Bang for your buck so to speak.

Buy from overseas (online) & get a real quality reel like a Daiwa Zillion for about $A 270 delivered ....... that way you can forget the pretenders
Then for your $130 you should be able to match it with a reasonable rod! ..... That's what I'd do anyway Nagg

Yea I would definately go the Curado and Raider combo! The Curado looks like a nice little reel.
    cheers barra
