1337, GPS works on the dam, some charts that you buy and insert in your plotter have inbuilt maps of impoundments, but none that I have seen have detail like contour depth lines etc that they do in the ocean. Mainly only use it to mark a paticular trail, submerged snag or creek bed for future reference. Mine shows the old river bed of Awoonga which comes in pretty handy.

Thank god for GPS ....... We certainly needed it coming back after dark from the cattle yards area ( first trip to the dam) ....... Pitch black with some narrow areas! ...... Also if you turned on a spotlight .... you got a facefull of bugs .... Nagg

Gps for marking your waypoints and tracks are the way to go.

Units with impoundment info are pretty useless in most of the impoundments due to dam levels changing as often as they do. (Water allocations, drought, rain)

Experience and caution is the way to go, very easy to get yourself and other in your boat in dangerous situations if you don't utilise all that is available today.

It great technology and a good hand held Gps is worth its weight in Gold.

Something like the Garmin GPS72 are only around the $259 mark last time, I saw a price, but with parity on the US dollar approaching, all imported stuff should come back to a more reasonable price.

Hey Pete Great Photos Champ, Fish The Same Bay The Weekend Just Gone With A Couple Of Mates And We Picked Up A 80, 93, 115 The Big One Went Fifty Two Pounds In The Old Scale, Fat Little Fella. Also Spotted A Big Girl Floating In A Bay In B That When Measured Nearly Put A Tear In Our Eye, Just Over 130. Such A Shame! We Also Dropped Five More Fish Over The Weekend, Three In The Sticks And Two More In That Same Bay. Just About All Our Hook Ups Came From The Same Area Of That Bay, Was It The Same For U? Bit Of A Hot Spot At The End Of That Bay Where The Weed Edge And Fence Line Met In Around Six Foot Of Water, Only Ask Cause It Seems Shallow Considering How Hot It Was. Water Temps On Average Where Around The 31 Degree Mark, Kinda Warm Hey. Same With U Steve, Think U Gave That Area A Nudge That Same Weekend.

Yeah - you're spot on, Locked Up.

Just where the fence line crosses the bay is where we got many of our hook-ups. The next bay just around the corner to the east also produced a few good hook-ups.

I'll be back in January for another crack around that area!

I'm heading up there Jan 1...hope to restore my dignity and get one on the deck this trip. only a quick trip for 3 days and taking a workmate who's just getting into the fishing, hopefully we can stretch his arms too, will make a nice change to the small flathead he's been learning on so far.
