Guys - I am very new to the GPS technology so this may seem like a dumb question...
I have a Navman Trackfish 6500 with the latest Oz C-MAP NT card. I go boating quite a bit with a friend of mine who has in his boat a Lowrance with whatever nav card they use. One thing I have noticed is that on his - the various channels (say between Redland Bay and the ‘pin) are nicely marked out sort of like a separately coloured highway (no I'm not talking about the highway view on the Navman). He just needs to steer the boat in the centre of the channel and he's cool.
Mine only has the actual markers ie. red and green etc which to be honest can be quite hard to make out on the chart as you bump along. It would be great if I had a nice clear depiction of a channel to steer along as he does. I can sort of achieve the same thing by plotting each of these markers and making a route out of them - but that's a lot of work.
Am I missing a setting on my tracker or is this just limitation of the equipment and/or C-MAP?
Re: Navman Trackfish 6500, C-MAP and channel marking
M8, be careful going thru that area. You don't want to be travelling down the middle of those narrow channels anyway, stay over to the right (your starboard) hand side of the channel in your direction of travel. Some of the unlit channels can be tricky after dark - stay to the right, a quick flick of a spotlight will pick up beacon reflectors and unlit boats. Don't develop an over-reliance on a GPS, it's only an aid to navigation, not the sole means.

Thanks for the tip on that area... I was actually wondering more about the technology than the actual route - I was just using that area as an example.
