    Pfluger Trion Graphite broken

    Team,
has anyone else had problems with their Pfluger graphite rods? Mine snapped about a foot down from the tip when line was being pulled out using the drag.

The worst bit is that this rod was brand new, never even got a chance to boat a fish. The rod broke in the process of rigging it.

Anyone experienced this before? Is there a batch of dodgy blanks around?

    Cheers.

    Ed.

No dramas here i have a 7ft, 6-10kg spin and a 7ft, 2-5kg spin. Both are OK, the 6-10kg got quiet a work out a couple of days ago on a big tuna, it was was bent into all sorts of shapes for 2 and a bit hours but stood up well. Sounds like it could have been just a dud. I would be going back to where you bought it and asking them what they can do about it.

    Cheers Chris

If I buy a rod I test them in the shop.
I take a reel...rig it....bung some load on it and play like it had a whopper on it.
That way if it breaks in the shop you can go to the next rod and try again.
Some of the better little tackle shops will even have a reel etc for you to try with just to see if you like the rig
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Yep, bought 2 exactly the same from BCF, snapped both of them within a few trips. Had the first one repaired, but then decided to take the other one back and they had to keep it for a few days then said they will replace it. Yep, and had to put up witht he usual SA remarks... oh did you slam it int he car door or put in the fan. ffs they know there is a problem with some of them yet they continue to sell these inferior rods. If another one breaks, I will be exchanging and upgrading.

It is a common problem with the trions.

I had one for a special charter offshore so i could flick plastics, and it broke first cast.I ended having to use the alveys on board and chucking heavy bait rigs down, I wasn't happy at my wasted plastics charter.

I heard the same thing but went ahead and bought one on special. It has survived everything from Tuna to a big Eagle Ray and pulled the kinks out of 10lb Fireline on a consistent basis. My brother has had breaks in dropshots as well, Most of these class of rods are built to a price so you can expect a few duds to show up. I would be disapointed if warranty was not honoured

There was a post on this subject a little while ago, judging from the feedback, people either had the same experience ie broken rods , or people loved them and have been using them for ages with no dramas. I've had mine for about a year and have been using it to catch all sorts of fish. I'm now using it to pull in bass and I love it. I've used it out west in the rivers and for flathead as well.
    I think I got a good one.

    Red Nut,
I had a similar experience, brand new rod, tip snapped off casting a very light jig head and sp. Retailer changed it no questions asked, but did state that it was not a common problem with them. I would take it back and either exchange or get a refund.
    Regards,

    Re: Pfluger Trion Graphite broken

I sell a sh!t load of trions, i was under the impression that they were one of the better cheap graphite rods based on how few we have come back as compared to strudwick and the berkley dropshots.

As mentioned above i normally load rods up for customers and tell them that if you load it up like this you'll never brake this rod.

Sounds like alot of high tipping still going on. Alot of blokes will still deny it but thats because they weren't paying attention to the rod tip when it happened. Every now and then you have graphite rods do a random ping at the tip where they have been impacted during transit. Genuine warrently claims are usually when they brake right next to a guide foot when the binding has been put on to tight, this happens alot with some of the really cheap graphite rods and also when the rod comes in in several pieces nearer to the middle of the rod do we normally take it as a serious warranty claim.

Yeah i dont really agree, i do think it is a shame when you take a rod in for warranty and have to explain yourself to them only to acuse you, i have had a little trouble in the past. one such example happened to a live fibre wilson which snapped in half throwin a jackall

I broke one at Lenthal's last week. I can't believe how many people have broken them! I hooked a small barra and bent down to release it while keeping the rod up high. It snapped about a 1/3 of the way down. High sticking is not recommended.........

    Re: Pfluger Trion Graphite broken

iv used 2 and know of 2 people that use the trions with no problems at all..

they may be going through a bad batch or something like strudwick did a while back...

other than that, im 110% satisfied with my trion, and if i was going to buy another rod in that price range, i would buy another one.

What so tackle stores are ment to replace any broken rod on the spot no questions asked. Just look at the number of people here who have self confessed to high sticking their rod, it wouldn't be worth the effort selling graphite rods. not to mention lack of receits.

Warranty claims are agaisnt manufacturors faults and are ultimately approved by the manufacturor, if a bloke at a tackle store thinks its high sticked or crushed in a car door it means the rep will aswell and is probably trying to save you the hassle of hanging around without a rod and then when the rep comes round and says 'high stick tell him he's dreaming'.
