    honda external fuel filter

just looking at replacing a external fuel filter I had fitted to my boat.I have about 60 hrs on motor which is a about 3years old ,so thought I might replace it . The filter is a cav type with clear bowl on the bottom, reading the whitworths site for replacing cartridges it says its not reccommended for petrol.I remember when I order my tinny I wanted an extra filter fitted to look after motor and I think the dealer said the cav diesel filter cartridges were alot cheaper than racor petrol type ones but did the same job. just after any advice/feedback differences between filters changing frequency etc cheers Yamp

Hi Yamp the low down is the diesel filters will work very well, just as well as the Racor etc they do have a relativly low L/H flow rate so big engines need more than one.

The only difference is.......NONE! The glue is the same the filter medium is the same, the pleats etc etc the makers only produce and warrent the filter for the application that will see them with the best financial return, the return for use on petrol engines doesn't offset the liability to repair/insure against repair.

There is a ryco filter that will do what you ask and is warrented for petrol applications, around $13 from memory, forgetthe number of it but someone here may know, repco stocks them, if you have no luck let me know and I will chase up the number.

    cheers fnq
