    Dead pixel warranties

For those looking at buying a high-end fishfinder/chartplotter display I would suggest they check the manufacturer's dead/stuck pixel warranty.

A close friend recently purchased a Raymarine C120 system only to find it has a stuck pixel on the display which is somewhat annoying. Raymarine Australia have been reluctant to discuss the matter and he got the following reply from Raymarine UK…

"For warranty purposes if the screen has 3 or more dead pixels in a square cm or 6 in total then the LCD is replaced. In any case, if a dead pixel is there we will investigate it on the display, if the one pixel is in a place where it will effect Navigation then the display will be repaired, which is more that what you get for other manufactures of TFT displays"

He is rather disappointed that a display worth many thousands of dollars should not be covered for a single dead pixel. You can buy a $300 LCD computer monitor with better warranty.

So my advice would be to check before buying.

Other than that, the C120 is an awesome bit of gear.

    Re: Dead pixel warranties

Interesting bit of information. I am going to check with Raymarine here in the states and see what they have to say.

On the bright side, 1 dead pixel, 479,999 pixels alive and well!

    Good Luck!
