    GPS/Sounder Combo

    Hi
just looking to buy a GPS/Sounder combo and was wondering what a good entry level one would be? I currently have a sounder only old lowrance x25, works fine, but looking for something better (and a GPS)
    Thanks

    Hi Rowan,
What is your budget and what kind of fishing do you do and how deep? Also do you want to be able to use detailed navigation charts on the gps?

    Re: GPS/Sounder Combo

    Hi
sorry was a pretty general question wasn't it. I think I have decided to buy a sounder only after reading some of the posts here, and will buy a seperate GPS later. I normally only fish up to about 50m deep and GPS mainly for closer inshore, but would love to find the FADS one day (Swansea) and wouldn't like to chance finding it. Possibly buying an Eagle sounder, maybe a fishmark 320 as they are on special for less than $300 down here at the moment, not sure though, may spend some more?
    Thanks
    Rowan

    Re: GPS/Sounder Combo

I prefer separates to combos but it really is what works best for you. For the depths you are fishing you definitely want a dual frequency sounder with at least 300 watts rms of sonar power if not more. If you are thinking Eagle, the Fishmark series is only a single frequency lower power unit. In the Eagle line you want to look at the Seafinder series. The Seafinder 480 would be the dual frequency version of the Fishmark 320 but still a little low on power at 200 watts rms.

A really good high quality fishfinder that should be close to your budget would be the Furuno LS4100 or the LS6100. These sounders are top notch and value priced. To get anything better than the Furuno you would have to up your budget a whole bunch. I know you can get these in the states in your price range but I am not sure about Oz.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

    Hi Rowan,
You can't go wrong with the LS4100!
PM me with your email address and I will send you some information on how to properly tune a Furuno sounder.

    Good Luck!
