Talking Hopefully going on my first charter!

I have been too scared to mention it much, incase I put a curse on it, but I am going on a charter on Friday! (of course weather dependant)

It will be my 1st charter and I have been invited with a group of my old work friends to join them on one of their regular trips. We are going out from Rainbow Beach on Baitrunner.

With my obvious lack of form in recent times and lack of hours on the water, I am keen to make up for my rather pathetic efforts of late, and am determined to bring something home! (Oh please God - let me catch something!)

I am taking my own rod to try some plastics and if that fails I can always used the boats gear.

I have to go and pick up my new spare spool for my reel in the morning and while I am there can pick up any "extras" that may be required.

    So far I have:
    • Rod with reel to be spooled with 50lb braid and 60lb leader (but I am also taking the other spool with my 12lb braid and 20lb leader)
    • 3/4oz, 1oz, and 1 1/2oz jig heads.
    • a couple of packets of 7inch nuclear chickens, 7 inch lime tigers and a new grub looking thing in sardine colour (suggestion of the tackle shop man)
    • and the other normal tackle box stuff - braid scissors, kwells, etc, etc
How am I going so far and what else do I "need" to buy at the tackle shop tomorrow!

    Thanks
    Janine

    Hi Janine,

You'll need every bit of the 50lb gear if you get into Red country. They hang and feed very close to the bottom. Jig head selection should be O.K. depending on the current, I'd probably have so 5/8 oz if the current is light and conditions are good although I've just checked seabreeze and it could be interesting - are you talking about this coming friday? or next week? Chooks are good. Other patterns to consider adding to you arrangement are the blue pepper neon and pearl - check ya P.M.

I'd have some 20lb & 40 lb leader with me just in case the fish are finicky.

I do hope the weather is kind and you can get out...otherwise it might have to be a flamin riptide charter special for you and the Great White!

    Cheers

    Rhys

Hasn't Peter got about 900 metres or so of 80lb mono that he sometimes uses as whipper snipper cord?

I'd be taking that as well.

Knowing you Janine, by the time Friday comes around, I'm sure that you'll have everything triple checked and ready to go.

    Hope you get amongst 'em!!
