Would you kill a record marlin after all the meat is no good to eat at really big size. My dad said very big Marlin caught in cairns that are put up to the scales are just sliced up and thrown in the water after the photo. I think its a waste of an amazing fish.
What is every body elses thoughts ??
Heres something I've been thinking about recently, making entire rivers/creeks/lakes/dams catch and release systems? I know not everyone will agree with this but does it not make sense? set aside areas for rec fisherpersons to able to fish places like this. It would make the system alot more sustainable, attract other fishos and make fishing into something like it would of been 100+ years ago.
Jpart 11,
it is a shame, and it's those people who are giving gamefishing a bad rep. others love to tag and release, which i belive holds a big key to the future of many larger species.
Dunno if it would work joeking, as im sure the greenies will still deem it 'insensitive to the feelings of the fish'. they want it out ALTOGETHER!! ignorance...little do they realise rec fishos are the key to sustainability, and the watchdog of our waterways.
cuzza
good on you imnotorigonal , im all for c& r - trophie fish to me = breeding stock !!! the more breeding stock we have the more fish there are !!!!
the more fish there are the more trophie fish there are !!!!
the more trophie fish there are well im sure you get the picture!!!!
if you want to keep a feed keep a feed but i think most trophie sized fish are not worth eating so i keep a digital camera handy . pity it dosnt get used as often as id like lol.
Mate as I said in my first post, I have no intentions of keeping big Jews so if I was to hook up to a very big Marlin I would cut/break it off very early into the fight so not to fight to the point of dieing anyway. I know any big fish has poor eating quallites so why catch it, wether it be a big marlin, jew or even flattie
hmmm, it's an idea with some merit I guess but I wonder who would supervise it. You mention the Manitoba .gov agency in Canada; would it be an individual state thing or a national one? Given the history of trying to get a consistent agreed standard between each Oz state, it probably will never happen at a federal level so it may have to be a state thing.
Having stated the above, I doubt I'd participate in the scheme because I target fish as a meal and if I'm ever lucky enough to catch a record fish I would release it anyway because bigger is not always better (for eating) Pictures and great memories would be reward enough for me.................![]()
i think its a killa idear (with the badges) id where them proud, it give me the biggest head haha. id like to do the tagging thing as well to help as much as possible for the future of our limmeted fish stocks
figjam
