Re: Mud crabs
I wouldn't go to dillies for sandies either - they just get destroyed too easily.
I'd recommend good quality, largish, round, 4 opening collapsible pots. I've got some Crab'N Gear ones that have been very well used over the years and still aren't rusting. The cheaper kind of pots will probably rust up pretty quickly. When you look at the cost of a feed of crabs, even if you pay top shelf prices a couple of trips and they should pay for themselves, and they'll last many years.
I like round pots as I've heard that square pots can promote more confrontations between crabs. (A crab backed into to the corner can't just escape sidewards away from another crab. He's gotta fight) Dunno if it's true but my round pots seem to produce and I never get damaged crabs. Which I have had before. And 4 entrances make it easier for the little buggers to get in - which has got to be a good thing! Collapsible just makes it easy for transport and they set up in no time. eight 'collapsed' pots on the floor is a pile just over a metre in diameter and about a foot high.
