    Fraser advice needed.

I am heading to Fraser in a couple of weeks and want to give lure casting for tailor a go.

Can anyone advice me where I can buy the slider lures. Also I have a $100 bucks to spend on a new spin reel can anyone point me in the right direction as to what to buy.

What sort of leader should i use for this out fit and what breaking strain line is appropriate.

    thanks.

Yep, have stock of 25, 45, 55 and 65g Sliders. Can email me on ldines@bigpond.net.au for rigging options and prices.
There was a thread by MJC85 last year - 'spinning for tailor' (I think) that goes into a hell of a lot of detail and well worth a read. But, in short - I wouldn't be using anything over 15lb mono which can be tied directly to the lure, but casting distance is not great. 12lb mono directly to the lure would cause heavier slugs to be thrown off occasionally, but would be mostly fine for 45 and 55g slugs without the necessity of a casting leader. I use 6 or 9lb mono (schneider) with 15 or 20lb mono casting leader for maximum distance without throwing slugs off. Enough leader so that when casting there is a couple of wraps of leader still on the spool (about 1 and a half rod lengths). A 'double blood' joining knot works well for me and the leader should be changed reasonably often - perhaps every 30 - 60 casts depending on fish played, casting effort and leader quality. I would strongly recommend not using braid.
$100 won't buy anything that will last any great length of time given the nature of the work it's going to do. However I was impressed with a couple of Shimanos that were selling at BCF for $69 and $89 - forgotten the models already but they still carry them. The only difference between the two appears to be spool capacity. If you can find a tss4 for $135 - I think there are still some around - then the extra money would be well spent.
2 valuable things when spinning - look for rocks in gutters and spin slugs over them - should be plenty of these at Fraser atm.
And - I hook up on more tailor/choppers by stopping the retrieve half way in than I do at full tilt - particularly during the northern migration. But keep in mind that greenbacks almost exclusively take fast slugs.
