    ABC online forum

I'm quite concerned with some of these special interest groups that oppose the establishment of NTAs in Moreton Bay, and the level of power they wield. For some of these groups any attempt at conservation measures is part of the 'green conspiracy'. (I see it all the time on the Ausfish forum from lead members of the fishing party). With the enormous and growing recreational pressures on the Bay, I feel perhaps we need more people up here to campaign for (as the UQ report suggests) marine reserves. Any proper attempts at conserving the Bay will be shot down by these 'fundamentalist fishermen' groups otherwise.

'fundamentalist fishermen' Well I must be one of them because im against NPAs in moreton bay.

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

I take offense at the word 'conservation' being uttered by any green extremist, today that is almost all of them, pretty much the moment they say the word conservation a person knows they are being PC and actually mean 'preservation', the government content with own corrupt usage of the 'precautionary principle' enable and defend it.

Will be shocked and amazed if an outcome that borders conservation is ever the end result, everywhere else has shown the result is almost excusively preservation.

Look this is far comment. Are we from the Looney “their all out to get us” fringe or are our concerns justifiable and the pressure we exert justified?
No doubt about 1 thing. We are out to exert pressure. The greens at the last state election called us “a minority interest group with too much power over coalition policy”…I have to say, coming from the experts, that was just gold!!

As a starting point to our response I would like to quote a couple of exerts from a paper published by Emeritus Professor of Fisheries at Canberra University. Dr Bob Kearney PhD., DSc, AM. This is a paper called Pros and cons of marine protected areas in NSW. Who’s been hoodwinked?
While this is a NSW paper the process is exactly the same.
“ Thus the primary beneficiaries of ……constitutes the marine park industry”
“Do these key statements indicate more about the real intentions of those who wrote the science paper and championed the park than is otherwise stated?”
“The flawed logic & misrepresentation of the scientific literature”
“appears to me to be a total fabrication”
“For if there is no greater crime in science than manufacturing “results” it is doing so and then attributing these results to somebody else”
“The science paper and related documents are consistent only in being biased”
And on and on and on it goes.
If this was just me/us saying this it would be fair to call us extremists but this is one of the countries most well respected and highly qualified fisheries scientists.
So On to the Green Conspiracy. Is it real or are we just delusional?
While much of the Green Party published policy is motherhood and benign, we, as an organization and industry have long held views that their real agenda is far more focused on the rights of Australians to access and use our waterways, parks and beaches.
The single most disturbing documents I have seen in 4 long years of political involvement came across my desk a few days ago. These are an internal Greens/Conservation movement documents, which spells out in specifics, the background behind the motherhood statements made on its web site. It makes for sobering reading and an insight into the rational of the push behind the closures of the Bay.
Read the policy backgrounds below and then decide how much of what we are concerned about is real, or, as FishingJew puts it, paranoia.
On the Greens website, in respect of fisheries management it states
24.Expand fisheries assessments to all Australian fisheries, including recreational fisheries, and develop and implement a national framework for managing recreational and charter fishing.

In the background documents however it uses the following terminology to spell out its true position
The existing system of nature reserves in Queensland and Australia are inadequate

2.1Much larger areas of Queensland to be fully protected as National Parks to ensure that ecological and evolutionary processes can be maintained and that the natural dynamics at all levels of biological association can continue (target: 15% compared to current <5%).
3.1Prohibit recreational fishing in National Parks. NB: This would include most of Fraser Island, Lakefield National Park and much of Cape York, all of the Daintree and Kakadu.
Establish a continuous Marine Park from the NSW border to the NT border.
Once established, a comprehensive network of no-take zones should be established in the Park to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem values. (No take zones should be established in accordance with the IUCN standard of a 20-30% minimum) NB : Regardless of need for such zones, just a blind ideology.
Introduce a saltwater recreational fishing licence to Queensland state
Waters. A licensing system would provide revenue for research, education, habitat protection and rehabilitation. NB : Note this wording, there is absolutely no mention of using funds for stocking or to enhance the recreational fishing experience
Work with the National Oceans Office and the Northern Territory
Government to develop the Northern Regional Marine Plan that includes a comprehensive, adequate and representative network of marine sanctuaries which protect 20-50% of all bioregions in highly protected areas.

This document is available in its entirety if you wish to view but there is NO good news in it. If this party ever gets an opportunity to force these policies on the Government it will severely restrict if not destroy your industry.

Fishing Jews opinions are his absolute right. I have to say that a few short years ago I would have shared his views but the more I have become involved in the grubby business of politics the more I have come to realise how and why things are done the way they are. I also have a lot of information now come my way which I would not have been privy to, and quite frankly would not care about if I was not "in the mix".
Opinions change with knowledge. Look, read and learn and most certainly consider that those with a vested interest in the Business of marine parks, the research industry, have a lot to gain finacially from a "sky is falling" publicity campaign.
YES to protection but NO to exclusion. There are already significant options for managing human impacts without shutting areas off. Recreational fishing is a small and ultimately managable impact yet we are the ones being made the scapegoat. Bag limits, slot sizing, closed seasons ccan all help manage impacts yet the green zones are a sham and a con job which do NOTHING about the big ticket impacts of foreshore development and mainland run-off.
Protect your rights to the Great Outdoors.

Interesting. If this person frequents Ausfish he must have seen my earlier post on this and posted it on another site. A bit unscrupulous. Could have at least discussed it first in my thread before posting on the ABC forum.

Off the top of my head i could think of two posters who it could be! many many more just watching I suspect, it would be the only time they heard a dissenting or differing opinion if my time in conservation was anything to go by, cloistered bunch of individuals they are, they do know coffee and the right cheese to have with their crackers though!, thinking I should apply for a passport just for fun to test the political grade of the water (wink):0
    red under beds...watchout

    Re: ABC online forum

I suggest to anyone out there that agrees with the facts stated by the Greens policy background document as quoted by KC above you take their views very seriously and ensure you tell everyone you can about their plans to shut down ALL aspects of the outdoor lifestyles that Australians have enjoyed for decades.

If you don't and/or don't give serious thought to what KC and the Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party actually stand for, when this election comes and you haven't done so, then it WILL be taken away by the greens if they gain the power in the senate.

The time for action is now, not later or wait and see what happens, act now, tell all your mates and family now, otherwise we all miss out. Want to tell your kids they can't go to Peel Island for a fish anymore? I sure as hell don't want that conversation, do you????

    Thanks.
