    Wanting 4wd

Hi, I'm starting to look for a 4wd. I am wanting to spend about 5-6000. I'm after a 4 cyl. I was wondering what would be the best sort of 4wd to get for that price. I would do a bit of beach work and camping. It would also be used to tow my boat.
    Thanks.

Does it need to be a wagon, dual cab or ute ? for that money in a 4cyl your best bet would be a late 80's hilux or 4 runner. I have a 89 4 runner with 2.4 deisel, it's great for all the above. Could do with a little more power but it gets there. I've had it for about 4 years and only had to fix silly things that were my own fault except for the timing belt the other week.
    Cheers TT

    G'day

Like allready mentioned, a late 80's hilux of sorts, maybe even a suzy sierra if cargo space wasn't a huge issue.

Decide on a body configuration first and get someone knowledgeable to check it out.

Buy one from out west if possible. less chances of hidden rust,.

Yer mate for that $$$ you should be able to pickup a early 90's 4runner/hilux 2.8d.They are a good reliable rig with reasonable power to tow a boat.Dan.........

Thank's for that. I have seen a few, they have around 250- 280000ks. I was wondering how many ks can you get out of a hilux before they need a rebuild? What would be more relibale and live longer a petrol or disel motor?
    Thanks.

It all depends on how it's been looked after our old work lux's all had 650,000+ k's on them and were thrashed and i had one for 6years which done 340,000k's and was still going last i heard. The diesel is the pick of the bunch not bugger all power difference between it and the petrol.High 200,000's isnt to bad for a lux,you should be able to find a 90/91/92 vintage twin cab thats been maintained for the right price $7000 should get a decent one with bullbar wide wheels aircon towbar etc.Dan.........
