mercury 85 blue band gears slipping

Hi everyone just wondering if anyone would have some advise on a older 85 hp mercury blue band. I took my boat out of mooloolaba for a run yesterday and everything went fine until I was about 3 miles from home I was sitting on 20 knots when all of a sudden it just started revving of its face, I backed it off but I could only do about 4 knots all the way back in before it would start over revving again. I checked the prop and it is not loose so I am thinking the gear box is stuffed but not sure exactly how they work . do they have a clutch? thanks Dan.

you have spun a prop bush, not a major problem. Just need to have it rebushed at somewhere like solas.com.au

yep, more than likely as stated, can you borow a prop for a 5 minute test run to be sure?? but I would be betting on the prop bush.

thanx for the replys ill look into it at least it might not be as bad as I thought.
