Highway towing - Return
Just a short note to say thanks again to the people who offered advice on highway towing to Yamba.
Very uneventful trip down and back thanks to you guys.
The Prado diesel towed the Allison 195 Angler at a comfortable 90-95klm/h no problems at all except for the hill at Byron Bay and the hill on Teven turn-off (Ballina by-pass).
Didn’t use cruise control on the way down but did use it on the flater sections quite a bit on the way back and the fuel consumption did suffer noticeably.
Cheers

Surprised the economy would be worse. I tow a similar sized boat to Hervey Bay from Brisbane and use it. Maybe I need to give it a go without cruise, but is so much easier to do a long trip with cruise control. Need to weigh up the extra expense to the fatigue factor I suppose.

Yeah I was alittle suprisd to Cheech,
A couple of the guys on Ausfish warned me about it before I went and it didn't sound right to me either.
But on the way down I used 3/4s of my sub-tank (no cruisie) and on the way back I used cruise control (on the flat sections only) and I used the entire sub-tank and had to switch over to the main tank just after the Gold Coast.
Same load, same amount of fuel in the boat, and tried to sit on 90-95klm/h both ways.
Differences:
On the way down - no traffic at all . . . even drove through Tugun without stopping! Did drive through two storms that lasted about 5 minutes each and we had to do about 50klm/h through both because of the poor visibility.
On the way back we had traffic at Tugun and crawled for about 20 minutes (stop/start) but other than that we had as good a run as on the way down.
Cheers
Fred
